Not sure if you have all seen this - but before we all become too depressed with the weather or the lack of security at the Olympics or whatever else makes us mad and sets our blood pressure off lets all just take a minute to think about how lucky we are to live in this country
Then perhaps we can appreciate why others would like to come here and welcome them

Why welcome them?
Can we take everyone who lives in a poorer country than us?
India has a population of well over a billion. It also has an area of 1.25 million square miles, while we have an area of 94,000 square miles.
Do we invite every poor indian over here to live?
Also note that india has 153,000 millionaires, the 12th highest in the world. The country has the money, they just dont share it out as fairly as other countries.
Anyway, we already have far too many people from the indian sub continenent here (cities like Birmingham and Leicester are already almost 50% immigrant) and the birth rate amongst immigrants is far higher than the indiginous population.
Rather than encourage people to come here all "rich" nations should ensure all the worlds money is shared more equally.

eddie the article says the dollars are PPP dollars ie Purchasing Power parity so the amounts in question are based on the purchasing power of 1 US dollar in the US, so the wage figures are skewed. so they are taking into account purchasing ability so for example $100 dollars in say Sri lanka would buy what would cost say $500 dollars in the USs so the figure used is the latter. So the actual amount of the average wage in pure absolute dollars is much lower than quoted.
