I agree that education should be for all, but what do the governments of these countries think or do about it. Squander money on arms, instead of buying books, plush homes instead of good teachers. Cars and aircraft instead of schools, look at Mugabe as a starting point, then put a pin in any part of the map and you will find many more like him. Add in the fact that some countries don't seem to be believe in education for girls, rather they were breeding machines for the men.
This unpaid position is the first big job for the former prime minister since he left Downing Street two years ago.
But it does not mean that he will be leaving domestic politics.
His office told the BBC that Mr Brown definitely remained the MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
That could lead to further criticism from those who have attacked him for attending few debates and voting in Parliament on only a handful of occasions.

sandyroe, i agree, but lets get this into perspective, millions of our children are being failed by the education system, so why didn't he, or doesn't he do something constructive here. We keep on telling people how to run their countries, why don't we leave them alone. It only gets us into even deeper water.
"Don't we have a government to do that for us? What are they doing, do you suppose? "
i recall a short while ago the government released a report on the number of kids who dont even have english their a first language, and there were various other figures on what they were unable to do at the age of seven.
the numbers were frightening, so the gov. is obviously not doing very much
The UK needs to come first not the third world, but as an ex "pm" that doesnt seem to bother him, and i'm sure if some of these places were to look at labours record and policies on education theyd tell him where to go.

don't be childish.. If many of these children are working, how do you propose to send them to school, same with girls needed in the home, there are myriad problems with these proposals, not least the responsibility shouldn't come from someone here, but those who are in countries respective governments. Billions of aid is pumped into many countries, good, but couldn't some of that be used to school their children.
