'unpaid position'
I consider that he would be better served working for children in Britain. I agree that education should be for all, but what do the governments of these countries think or do about it. Squander money on arms, instead of buying books, plush homes instead of good teachers. Cars and aircraft instead of schools, look at Mugabe as a starting point, then put a pin in any part of the map and you will find many more like him. Add in the fact that some countries don't seem to be believe in education for girls, rather they were breeding machines for the men.

where is that, its not showing up on my page with the story, I've just looked again.

But i still say why doesnt he concentrate on home education issues, surely the UK must takes priority, It was such a big issue under labour
Looks like jobs for the boys again - Tony Blair was on TV spouting off again last night, God forbid that he comes back to British politics.
big issue, that mag that Romanians flog when they can't do anything else.
I couldn't find part either, that's it's an unpaid position.
It's on the side under Analysis, by Robin Brant, Political Correspondent BBC. I bet the constituents are delighted he'll be spreafing himself that thin.

"Tony Blair was on TV spouting off again last night, God forbid that he comes back to British politics. "

just about everything he used to say was lies so lets hope this is as well !
This unpaid position is the first big job for the former prime minister since he left Downing Street two years ago.
But it does not mean that he will be leaving domestic politics.
His office told the BBC that Mr Brown definitely remained the MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
That could lead to further criticism from those who have attacked him for attending few debates and voting in Parliament on only a handful of occasions.
Education helps life people out of poverty, here and in the Third World. I can't see why anyone should be criticised for promoting it.

@rocky

its not showing up on my page, maybe its a browser issue, if its in a box or something then maybe my adblocker is stopping it.
I'll turn it off and see...................no nothing !
At the moment using FFox 13.1, strange
*lift rather than life ^
sandyroe, i agree, but lets get this into perspective, millions of our children are being failed by the education system, so why didn't he, or doesn't he do something constructive here. We keep on telling people how to run their countries, why don't we leave them alone. It only gets us into even deeper water.
raising the level of education for primary kids here at home in the UK

Don't we have a government to do that for us? What are they doing, do you suppose?
Question Author
@ Sandy

when all the kids over here that come out of primary school can read and write etc to a certain standard then worry about other countries.
if Brown took any position that encouraged education of British children there would be outrage that he was interfering in Tory policy.

This is Gove's job. I wonder when he'll start doing it.
Is it the schools here which are failing some children or is it the family background which teaches them never to open a book, or read a newspaper, so that by the time they get to school they're set in their ways?

"Don't we have a government to do that for us? What are they doing, do you suppose? "

i recall a short while ago the government released a report on the number of kids who dont even have english their a first language, and there were various other figures on what they were unable to do at the age of seven.

the numbers were frightening, so the gov. is obviously not doing very much

The UK needs to come first not the third world, but as an ex "pm" that doesnt seem to bother him, and i'm sure if some of these places were to look at labours record and policies on education theyd tell him where to go.
so you're criticising him for getting on a "gravy train" by taking an unpaid job? But not criticising the people who are paid and aren't doing the job?

Why not blame him for the rain as well?
don't be childish.. If many of these children are working, how do you propose to send them to school, same with girls needed in the home, there are myriad problems with these proposals, not least the responsibility shouldn't come from someone here, but those who are in countries respective governments. Billions of aid is pumped into many countries, good, but couldn't some of that be used to school their children.
