You'd think we'd all be trying to put on a show, but no, let's go on strike shall we! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, the greatest job destroyer of them all, striking for jobs, the unions!

Without knowing the reason for their strike, should we really be commenting?
Who is striking? Do you have a link?
Oooh, China Doll, what pretty eyes you've got today!

Sorry, that's a bit off-topic really. Are they definitely striking then?
I mean, I know CD's eyes are striking, but what about the unions?
CD's eyes are certainly striking.
I think Moonrocker is referring to the Border Agency.
20% or such voted and of them only 59% voted for strike action.

That was enough for them.
Yesterday was the first time I`ve ever seen every desk manned at Border Control. Half of them are usually empty. They must have been having a little flurry of activity before taking the day off. They`ve got nice weather for it too.

we do know the reason for the strike, they claim to be striking for jobs. Anyway I don't care what the reason is now is not the time. No better that terrorists.

Hard one to call without knowing the exact nature of their grievance. I know it is a highly opportunist time to strike, when it will have the greatest impact, but perhaps their grievance is genuine?
Duncer.......have you ever known a Union grievance that hasn't been "genuine?"
Moonrocker, it is ridiculous to equate a strike with terrorism. I doubt those on strike plan to blow up a building in the near future.
Sqad - yes.

And there are levels of grievance. Our current dispute, (in my occupation) is, in my opinion, genuine and very worthy, and that's not just speaking from a selfish point of view.

It's difficult to see what possible benefit they'll get from a striking at this time. The only outcome will be that they'll lose any public sympathy they may have had.
The left will always look for an opportunity to (in their eyes) embarrass the Tories. They dont care about jobs, the economy or any of us. They are too busy swanking around in large cars on ex'sand living in big houses whilst on 6 figure salaries.

Be interesting to see what Red Ed and his mates have to say on this. Afterall they are his paymasters

even if the grievance is genuine, not bl00dy well now!

\\\have you ever known a Union grievance that hasn't been "genuine?"\\\

You answered "yes." and then you go on to describe your "genuine " dispute.

Have i misread you?
It's been rumbling on for a while - perhaps it should have been sorted earlier and it wouldn't have come to this?

Hardly terrorism, more opportunism.
That's a bit hysterical Moonrocker, people are entitled to strike if they so wish, without daft comparisons to terrorism, do get a grip.
> Hard one to call

Really? 59% vote in favour on a 20% turnout gives them the right to call a strike the day before the Olympics?

As the OP says, eyes of the world upon us ... they're not doing themselves, or any other UK resident, any favours whatsoever.
Not at all Sqad.

Not all disputes are genuine. I've been involved in trade unions for many years and was a shop steward in NIPSA many moons ago. I've seen many genuine disputes, but I've also seen highly spurious ones.
