Why do we need an Olympic village Mayor ?? Was he appointed, or elected?? If so by who? Is he paid from the public purse.. thank you.

In the grand scheme of things this is a tiny drop in the Ocean.
He is appointed, as far as I know. An interview with the man, explaining his role, is below.

He seems to be someone intimately involved with the Olympics bid and LOCOG. He appears to have a room at the olympic village, but no mention of whether it is a paid position or not. Does not seem unreasonable to have an individual responsible for hospitality, meeting and greeting etc.

Nor is the position unique to London - there was an Olympic Village mayor in Beijing, and at the previous olympics, for all I know..l...

"Olympic Village Mayor" is a quaint name for "Hospitality Manager".
