I just knew Danny Boyle wouldn't let us down, that was just simply stunning, I hope even the ABAO mob will acknowledge that was the best ever openning ceremony to the Olympics. Ok Whinners do your worst, I'm ready....

Macca was awful - they could have put a young artistes choir around him to help hide the croak and also it would have served to "pass the legacy" - otherwise brilliant - sure there were bits that grated but that was always going to happen as it had to cater for all tastes and age-groups......brilliant Sir Danny.

All I can remember of Beijing was the cute little girl singing which turned out to be dubbed by another little girl who was not cute but could sing.

I thought the Beijing opening ceremony was jaw-droppingly good...and in terms of scale, it was peerless...however, I actually preferred our ceremony because it had heart, a narrative and humour.
It was much more attuned to who we are as a nation, and came across as a massive celebration.
I wrote on AB four years ago that our USP is our world class music scene, and that we should make that the centrepiece of the show.
Danny must've stumbled across AB in the intervening few years.
