I once saw a documentary about politics and power, and Cameron appears to be playing the 'power handshake' thing.

The one he's doing is where he pulls the handshake towards his body. It shows he's 'in control of the interaction'.

Another one is where you shake someone's hand, and with the other hand you gently pat them on the shoulder. That apparently indicates that you are socially superior to the shakee.

Another one is where you shake someone's hand, and with your other hand, you cup the back of their hand so their hand is completely covered by both of yours. That's supposed to say, "Hey I really like you. I feel geniune affection for you". Bill Clinton did that all the time...when he wasn't using the Oval office as a knocking shop that is...

By the way, there's an extremely funny clip of (I think) George Bush and Tony Blair both trying to play another power move.

This is where two politicians of equal standing try to be the person who 'shows the other into' a summit meeting (for instance).

In this clip, both protagonists try to guide the other into a door way, and the result was both of them unsubtly trying to nudge the other through.

Actually, it might not be Bush/Blair.

Will have to research it.

But crikey I did not know there was so much to shaking someone's hand, it seems one must be most careful at all times on what one says or does these days.

Would you suggest an embrace which seems more in vogue these days, rather than the good old British handshake?

Yes hugging has become more socially acceptable, and I'm totally against it. Everyone knows exactly how long a handshake should last, but a hug is a social minefield. Too short and it says, "I'm uncomfortable touching you", and too long says, well...we all know what it says.

Also, goodbye platonic kisses should be banned, unless a rule is devised that everyone can follow which dictates when one should perform a single kiss or a kiss to both cheeks.

Too many people have ended up with a mouthful of nose under current kissing legislation.
