A similar thought crossed my mind Ludwig, when it was reported on the lunchtime news. However, there was no mention when the parents came to the UK,as in are they the children of immigrants and they were each born here for example?
Neither excuses the fact that they murdered one of their own children.

Many of these people came from a village society and were so insular that mixing with members of another village could be frowned upon.
Its not surprising that they often regard us and our lifestyle as heinous.
It will cost a bomb to keep these misguided and brutal parents in jail for life

Well things have moved a long way since that BBC News report way back in 2004.

They are very much against British society and clearly follow their Pakistani background. They even attempted arrange marriage for their daughter.

A pity that the penalties for their heinous crime weren't dished out by Pakistan legal system.

In this context I think "honour" is the honour or good name of the family. Traditionally, if a family lost its "honour" then it would not be worth marrying into by other members of the tribal group. It has nothing to do with the Western notion.
