Is it an offence to take a photograph from a car?
Police have shamed 80 drivers who took photographs of a crash on the M1.
Pictures of them appear in todays Daily Mail and the story says they have committed an offence by using a camera while driving.
It is the first time I have heard of that. Are they telling Porkies?

I don't recall exact details but I recall reading quite a bit a while ago about how the police can define place or situation or something as a time/place that one is not allowed to photograph, apparently on whim. Various professional photographers were getting caught.
But if, as you say, the objection was photographing while driving, well hardly surprising then. You can get pulled over for using one hand to put a choc bar in your mouth these days. So if something that petty can catch you out, taking a photograph, something that needs concentration, is a sure fire 'no no'.
As for naming & shaming perps, I think it works better in small communities where the offence is recalled and everyone knows the individual, and so folk don't wish to attract that sort of rep. But in a large community, it's likely to just cause resentment of authority and so not a good plan IMO.

Mick-Talbot, I stand corrected. In my defence, I've only ever heard it spoken about, rather than seeing the word written down.
andy-hughes...there are websites which allows people to post gross pictures of accidents. I was once sent a link to it (by someone I later sacked). Wasn't aware of the contents, but it was grim.
On the outer echelons of society are people who get a kick out of looking at, and disseminating these images.
To me, it's a form of pornography.

Well personally, I wouldn't take a picture of an accident.......but it is not uncommon to come across one and that would be the talking point as to when you finished your journey. A photograph would save a lot of muddled explanations and descriptions and i suppose could be used as information on the accident.
Does anyone remember the film Crash? This was a film whereby an accident scene stimulated sexual excitement.

I have mentioned several times previously on assocaited threads that I do not subscribe to the mass-communication aspects of the internet - which may be a generational thing, but i actually doubt it.
The honest truth is, I have other things to do with my keyboard than disseminating a load of information about my day-to-day life, or reading others doing the same.
I cannot see any worthwile result in photographing a car crash and posting it anywhere on the web - what purpose can that possibly realistically serve?
