South African massacre.

On AnswerBank recently we have seen condemnation threads on the Assange affair, also on the Pussy Riot affair, but strangely for some reason, no one has condemned the massacre of miners by the South African Police, although I did mention it briefly in jake-the-peg's Pussy Riot and the Chess Champion thread.

Were the Police in their right to shoot these weapon wielding miners, and is this the way justice is metered out in South Africa?

Sorry Sandy it must have been your quirky headline that made me miss it, and perhaps that may have been the reason only four ABers replied.

Unless of course this subject is being swept under the carpet for some reason by some of our fellow ABers.
AOG....I was thinking the very same thing........if it had been in the era of Apartheid,it would have made sensational international news.
It must be the pinko liberal conspiracy at work yet again. Keeping us all in the dark.
A horrifying story...and thank you for drawing it to our attention. Perhaps we don't read the Mail as assiduously as you AOG?

A truly horrifying story, which unfortunately i wont be able to read on your link because the Daily Mail has seen fit to print pictures of the dead miners.

Why would they print pictures of dead South Africans, dead Mexicans (hanging from a bridge) but not dead Norweigans after the Anders massacre?

Any theories?
Well if I were a policman with a gun and this angry mob armed with machet's and spears - which they no doubt would have used - came hurtling towards me I would shoot,
34 corpses.

Must have been a pretty lumpy carpet.

No one is talking about it because it is a long way away.

The same reason you have not posted about the earthquakes in Iran.

But if two devastating earthquakes had hit Jamaica, then you would have pisted a dozen questions by now.
I must find a way of getting my iPad out of Officer Crabtree mode...

// But if two devastating earthquakes had hit Jamaica, then you would have
POSTED a dozen questions by now. //
With the deaths of two police officers one critical in hospital I would have opened fire. Over reaction perhaps but with hundreds of weapon wielding trespassers who have already killed I think I would have opened fire. We all have to be responsible for our own actions and if one takes the initiative of violence then take the consequences.

Well the weather's been too nice for AB over the weekend but especially when I heard the claims from the SA police that they'd been shot at first I had to think that this bore similarities to Bloody Sunday
"A conspiracy by ABers to sweep this under the carpet" - my word, what an imagination (and how paranoid).

/// "A conspiracy by ABers to sweep this under the carpet" - my word, what an imagination (and how paranoid). ///

One does not have to posses much of an imagination or in fact be paranoid to come to the conclusion that I have.

Just look at the usual response this question has received from the usual candidates.

Only four answers on the same question, put forward by sandyroe.

Accusations because I happened to post a Daily Mail link, although this story was reported on by almost every other news source.

Condemnation of the Mail for printing the pictures of dead South Africans and dead Mexicans (hanging from a bridge) but not dead Norweigans after the Anders massacre. Now how paranoid is that?

No one is talking about it because it is a long way away???????

The same reason you have not posted about the earthquakes in Iran???????????????????????

But if two devastating earthquakes had hit Jamaica, then you would have POSTED a dozen questions by now??????????????

Now what kind of 'CONSPIRACY' is going off there.

But we haven't done yet, it has even been simulated to 'Bloody Sunday' by JTP.

Only sqad has come close to the real reason, and that is because it is a 'black on black' happening and not a 'white on black' happening.

If it had been a white on black happening, we would most likely have been on answer 100 plus by now.
Okay AOG

But haven't you posted this precisely because this is a black-on-black story?

Checking back, I can't see that you raised any questions on the Norweigan massacre, so couldn't you be accused of falling into the same category as the rest of us - which is, that we post stories that we are interested in?

/// But haven't you posted this precisely because this is a black-on-black story? ///

Don't be so paranoid of course not, I posted this because it should be headline news, not tucked away behind someone hold up in a foreign embassy, Pussy Riots or Spongebob Squarepants - gay icon.

As regards the media, they are not slow in showing us hallowing scenes in Syria.

/// Checking back, I can't see that you raised any questions on the Norweigan massacre, ///

I can't be bothered to check all that way back, but since it was headline news at the time, I am sure I must have contributed to it in some way, if not by entering a thread myself, or joining in on someone else's thread.

Why are you so touchy on this South African story?
I watched it on the TV in India on local stations and on CNN. It certainly made huge news there and they repeatedly showed the footage of it. Just because the UK didn`t make a big deal about it, it doesn`t mean it wasn`t covered. There`s a big world out there beyond the UK, you know.

I should point out that I captioned my question very badly. That's probably why it got so few replies.
I doubt there's a comspiracy of the AB lefties to keep this off our screens.
The tragedy for South Africa is that the people who led the revolutionary struggle seem to have ossified into reactionary old pharts.
Surely Trotsky was right when he talked of perpetual revolution.

/// Some of British murdering boys in blue would have been at home over there. ///

Is there no end to the lengths some will take to get their anti-Police message over?

I wonder if the ED will step in and remove this abuse of our Police?
AOG

Hang on...so I'm paranoid because you've posted this story, but you're not paranoid that this story has been 'swept undere the carpet by fellow AB'ers'?

How could we collectively sweep a story under the carpet?

There is no cabal of AB members secretly threatening other members who dare to post on a subject.

You post a question, and if there's sufficient interest, or more to the point, suffient DIVERSE interest, then the story will grow legs and run to dozens of posts.

If, however, you post a question which seems to have seemingly obvious answers - then you're not going to generate much responses.

Lastly - what do you mean when you say this should be headline news?

Did you find it difficult to source the story in the many news reports in all the daily papers?

In what way is this being brushed under the carpet.

Oh and I've checked - you didn't post any questions about the massacre in Norway. It's really easy to do a search in AB.
