Andy Murray - Grand Slam Champion!!! What a match - Djokavic was brilliant as well, but Andy would not be denied!

You have to admit it, Duncer, Fred Perry couldn't have 'lived' with either of these guys tonight - a fantastic final fitting to win any Grand Slam!

Andy Murray - Braveheart hero of Scotland and Great Britain!!! Salute him!!!

Kerosene, many thanks; seeing my name in the title of a post woke me up properly, or shocked me awake more like. I'm ashamed to say I fell asleep last night at one set up and 4-1 up, but I did have a very heavy weekend.

I have never ever said that Fred Perry could beat any of these guys, merely that he won slams in his era, and we can only judge people of their eras, and...

Question Author
jno,

You are totally out of order by claiming that there are loads of examplEs of Murray 'hating the English'. Any links to that effect? Either put up or .........
Question Author
jno,

I'll retract my last. An oversight on my part...I've re-read it and you didn't actually claim that he hated English people - my apologies - I've been up all night, that's all I can say.
It's his own fault that people don't like him, his "anyone but England" comment did not endear him to many.
Question Author
daffy,

You're another one - totally wrong - please provide a link to that accusation?
daffy...if taken out of context it sounds bad..but the interviewer said... that now that Scotland are out and England remain..who do you want to win..in a mocking manner..in any case it is ONLY banter....
no, no, I've never said he hated the English and I don't believe he does. But if he thinks he's never had the support from England that Henman did, I'd say he's correct.

I'm delighted for him.

Here's a link which proves that Murray admits to saying 'anyone but England', BUT he crucially puts it in context.

**NB** Roll video on to about 1m 25s to learn the truth. Then daffy and other narrow-minded individuals may care to apologise - if they have any milk of human kindness in them? If their pride can stand it?
Question Author
jno,

Well said. It's the same with the Olympics, I was rooting for every man and his dog - as they say - representing Team GB - same with the Paralympics - great stuff.
Why do you need a link? Murray has admitted he said it. He said it was taken out of context, but the damage was already done.

Just one story found by a quick 'Google'.
No I won't apologise, I have nothing to apologise for. Can you find anywhere in my posts where I said I disliked Murray?
Question Author
Daffy,

I just don't know if you're out for a good argument, but I certainly have never tried to deny he said it,he admits it himself, but please accept the CONTEXT in which it was said, i.e. a smug commentator was taking the 'Michael Bliss' out of Murray in a 2006 interview which, in similar good humour, Murray replied 'anyone but England'.

So, take that totally OUT OF CONTEXT and you can then start to pretend / delude yourself into pretending that he does indeed hate the English.

Get it now?
Well done laddie !

British by birth, Scottish by the grace of God !

Monster...amen...
What the hell is your problem Kerosene? You are coming across as a raging nutjob now.
I NEVER SAID I HATE MURRAY! I don't like tennis and couldn't give a flying fig who won what tournament.
now now...big breaths..in...and ..out......calm down it is only a comment on a sport...not ww3 !!
Question Author
Sorry, Daffy,

I don't think I'm the one on here acting like a 'nutjob' judging by the aggressiveness of your last post in particular?

Let's just leave it at that, shall we? I bear you no malice. Thanks for your contributions.
no but the poster seems to think it's Bannockburn all over again.
Most people like Andy Murray, there are a few that don't and they are probably not tennis fans, so don't care for him one way or another.
From a good post about a great achievement, it seems to have turned into a slanging match, why?
thank heavens for Ivan Lendl, he has instilled that extra bit of self belief that all champions need, now for the rest of the grand slams.
I think he has done fantastically well – he deserves his major tournament win after all the work he has put in – but quite honestly, because he isn’t English I couldn’t really care less about the win.

This is not because I dislike the Scots – I don’t dislike them – but is about the fact that I love the sporting rivalry between the nations that make up the Union.

I can think of no better sporting occasion than England stuffing the Scots at Murrayfield, and I strongly suspect every Scot feels the same about Scotland winning at Twickenham.

One of my favourite sporting moments of all time was England making Scotland look like a plodding Sunday league side in Euro 96 and Hendry not being able to live with Gazza’s class – and then the cherry on the cake was Holland scoring against us which meant Scotland not going through to the Quarters.

I love Formula 1 and think Paul Di Resta is a fantastic up and coming driver and possibly a future world champion. He also seems like a thoroughly nice bloke. But given the choice of him winning or Hamilton winning (and I think Hamilton is a bit of a prima donna), I will take Hamilton every single time.

Murray’s fantastic win was a win for Scotland – and I think if the Scottish people on this thread are honest with themselves, they also think it is a win for Scotland. Just Scotland. Which is fine and dandy in my book - if Murray were English, I would consider his win a win for England, not Britain.
should it matter, he is a great player, now champion, let's leave it at that
