What is it with people today that first sign of any news its instantly on facebook?
theres stories and even footage of people getting married giving birth etc and updating their status in the middle of the ceremony etc!

unless days had passed whoever made this page must have done it fairly fast - i would be furious ... this is private news to be announced by the family when they choose - not some 'friend'.

is this another of those times when people just love to feel 'involved' and in the thick of the drama, and feel some sort of reflected glory at being the first to know, and wanting to show they care the most...?

seems that social media is the first port of call when anything significant happens. a friend's daughter announced her offspring's birth first as a facebook update. meaning that her "friends" knew before her parents, who didn't have a facebook account. the parents found out via a congratulatory text from a friend, rather from their own daughter, who didnt call until later.

seems nothing is allowed to happen today unless Mark Zuckerberg says so.

This whole thing about publishing your life on line whether it's Facebook, twitter, blogging or whatever is a mystery to me, but I'm probably of the wrong generation. As Triggerhippy says, it's just what happens now.

I certainly don't feel I'm missing out on anything by not being involved in any of the above. Answerbank is about as far as it goes for me.

Sadly, s**t happens and this is most probably no more than some thoughtless loon relaying their 'scoop' to the dead daughter's Facebook friends without realising the possible ramifications?

I don't see why family should take priority over friends. Sure, it would be nice if someone had told them, but apparently the police - who did know and who are the public body that deal with this sort of thing - didn't bother. And the family themselves presumably weren't in touch with her. So her friends, who presumably were (since they found out), arranged their own tribute. What were they supposed to do, just bite their lips until someone got around to making an "official announcement"? There might never have been one.

oh undoubtedly the friends did it purely out of love for the girl and didnt think for one minute that the folk didnt know - but therein lies the problem - the lack of forethought, the lack of consideration that they should not have instantly broadcast it.
the news broadcasters are careful not to give names until they are sure family have been told.

jno, of course family take priority over friends! they are your next of kin, your blood, unconditionally in about 90 percent of cases, some friends come and go.
im not sure where you get the idea that the parents werent in touch with her... it seems to me like the police just hadnt got round to going to the house yet, and the friend leapt into action fast.
it wouldnt surprise me one bit if the person who made this page was just some person they girl knew, wanting to get involved ...

but like I say, joko, what would you expect friends to do? Just not mention it anywhere until it had been in the papers? That's not realistic, especially nowadays. Should they ring up the mother to check? What would they say - "Mrs Jones, did you know your daughter was dead?"

We're talking about a 30-year-old here, not a child. She had her own life and that means her own friends, also adults.
