Is the Royal College of General Practitioners so bigoted that there is need for this senior member to produce such a book of exam guidance rules?
/// In one passage of the guide, Dr Una Coales's MRCGP CSA Book, she writes: "One candidate was facing a third sitting and yet no one had told him that his mannerisms, gait and speech were too overtly gay, and that he was sitting an exam administered by a right-wing conservative Royal College. ///
/// She also advises candidates such as Nigerian and Asian trainees to "focus on emphasising the lyrical Scottish or Welsh accent" if sitting exams in these regions. ///

Is the medical profession homophobic and racist....Yes and it has been for the past 50 years........BUT......getting better.
Do you want to pass the examination or get the job for which you have applied? Then follow the advice of Dr Una Coales which will not alienate your examiner or interviewer.

"Is the medical profession homophobic and racist....Yes and it has been for the past 50 years."
homophobic dont know but it must be racist judging by the amount of africans, indians, pakastanis etc etc that are doctors and surgeons over here ?! and thats not even taking into account all the nurses from overseas
yeah really looks racist...not, from what i hear having a brother who is an NHS consultant its the whites from the Uk that are being discriminated against by an NHS doing its utmost to fulfil/and far exceed its quotas for ethnics.
There was a news story a couple of days ago about the the first drop in years of the numbers doctors from india.
about time too, we should be training our own

I can't speak for your brother, but all the less desirable posts go to the "overseas lads" without whom the NHS would crumble.....same goes for the nurses. I also hear that the "white" NHS consultants are becoming fed up with administration and are planning early retirement (anecdotal) and these vacancies if filled, with no white applicant will go to an overseas guy.......many of which are excellent value.

We do, but they are going into general practice rather than specializing and submitting themselves to lower pay than the GP's and a much longer training period. What incentive is there to specialise?

my brother is actually resigning from the NHS very shortly for the exact reasons you state and a few more.
He says private practice is virtually hassle free and far more lucrative.
him and his consultant friends call their NHS work "charity work"
apparently its extremely rare for them to resign, they retire but rarely resign

Regarding the change of photo on the article. Online news sources regularly do this, but it's nothing sinister - its all to do with 'photo-tagging'.
You know if you search for a photo using Google images (or whatever your preferred engine is), the results will be determined by the way the website n question has 'tagged' the photo.
Say, in this case, the Independent wanted to tag the photo 'homophobia', 'bigotry' or whatever, it would be inaccurate to associate this with Dr Coales. It might even be considered libellous.
Therefore, by changing the picture, they can use more indicative tags which would then draw the casual browser to the article.
