In the light of the brutal slayings of two Policewomen only 3 days ago, is this the kind of conduct conducive by a senior MP to engendering Police morale? Is his own apology enough? What if that had been you or I?

And IF he used foul language, shouldn't he stand down immediately?
Cameron, though, has more or less exonerated his man - a wise move?

Can you seriously not see that this person is troll who only seeks to get everyone going? Look at the amounts of threads all banging on about the same thing, people who are very rational debators lose their rag with him and he's as happy as larry- smacks of trollishness to me.
Nox, the frequency of posting is certainly interesting.....
Doesn't mean we shouldn't dispel illusions though, to leave them uncallenged is to accept them.
The police officer is saying that Mitchell called him a '******* pleb'.

The minister claims he didn't say it.

One of them must be lying. It's difficult to think of a reason why the policeman would lie about such a thing. Not so difficult to think of a reason that Mitchell might want to.

I think the possibility that he's a barefaced liar, is more of a worrying trait in a minister than the undeniable fact that he's a pompous arrogant tw&t.
"I think the possibility that he's a barefaced liar, is more of a worrying trait in a minister"

Are you for one moment suggesting that some aren't?

How dare you sir?
Of course, a true toff would know that there is no such thing as a "pleb", the "plebs" being a singular noun.
// Are you for one moment suggesting that some aren't? //

I'm just trying to avoid directly accusing him of being one Duncer.

He obviously is though - allegedly.

(Other bareface liars are available).
600+ of them.
I must say I've enjoyed the 'moral outrage' of the
mortgage switching,avaricous expenses fiddling
Labour MPs who've commented on this matter
today.
Conservative MPs are just as guilty of this memory
loss.
Does anybody take them seriously?
I've just been watching the news, and they're obsessed about the word pleb, and the F word and whether he's a toff and whether anyone likes him and blah di blah blah.

My serious point, which I'll repeat, is that no-one seems bothered about the fact that HE'S A ******* LIAR!!!!!!

(allegedly)

I'm deliberately revisiting this thread of mine, having let the dust settle since I first posted it yesterday evening.

It's extremely interesting looking back on all the negative - and personal comments to me - which were made by at least several posters.

I've seen numerous reports on this incident which of course is one of those dominating the news - and is still - since it happened.

And, shockarooney, the vast majority interviewed etc have not only condemned the Chief Whip's alleged conduct and language, but virtually every comment has been accompanied by a direct reference to the Manchester Policewomen murders and how the Downing St spat would do Police morale no good whatsoever.

Perhaps those to whom I've referred on this thread may then presumably either fully endorse Mr Mitchell's alleged actions as well as totally disagreeing with all those interviewed?

Aahh, the beauty of democratic free speech, huh? Why should Britain tremble?

What a surprising update - Mr Mitchell, despite massive pressure on him to step down, is still stubbornly refusing to go, the Beeb says.

Isn't it just a matter of time? According to earlier reports, two Police Officers made pocket notebook entries more or less immediately after the incident. Wonder what's in those notes?

I don't know obviously, but I'll bet I could guess? Yep, I think he'd be well advised to go - now!
Heard on Radio 4 this morning that the PM will be telling him next week he has to go. So we'll see.

ladybirder,

That's interesting, as well as a massive change in direction by Cameron if he does sack him? I'll be watching with great interest.
I worry less that he spoke to a policeman/policemen like that and more that he spoke to ANYONE in such a fashion.

Pompous ass!

Duncer,

Why would you think that Police are less vulnerable to such alleged behaviour than anyone else? They're no less human.
"Duncer,

Kerosene, I have no wish to fall out with you ovr this and, if you read my post again, I think you will see that the point I am making is that he shouldn't have spoken to ANYONE like that. We are all "vulnerable to such alleged behaviour" and a man in his position should not be abusing ANY employee in the course of their duties.
Question Author
No, Duncer, don't get the wrong idea. I don't easily fall out. I didn't mean to make my last post sound like that, it's just that I perhaps misinterpreted by thinking that you were trying to make out as if the Police were in some way 'fair game' for eejits like the 'Honourable Member'?

Now that the situation's clarified - in my little pea brain - yes, the man may well have signed his political death warrant if the Police concerned in the incident speak out against him.

Bet he wishes he could turn the clock back?
I know what I'm wishing.
