ID could be one way, but we have a very mobile population, especially in the big cities. I couldn't tell you who our neighbours are as they change constantly. Some are students, but many are not.

£1 coins are a different matter as regards forging, I think you will find that £20 note are not so easy and I am sure modern ID cards although no one could say would be totally impossible to forge, they would be very difficult to do so.

I cannot see how persons moving around would cause difficulties, those eligible to register would still be able to no matter where they moved to, just take pass-ports for instance, anyone wishing to apply for one can do so, and are generally successful in gaining one providing they fit the criteria to be granted one.

Think of the benefits of national ID cards, for instance no more showing two different means of identification when applying for certain things, which can sometimes be difficult if one doesn't happen to have a latest energy bill or driving licence or passport etc etc.

How many of us will agree to a national i.d card, if it's sold to us on the basis that we have to carry one at all times just to stop immigrants who we don't want? Not many.

We are presently asked for recent utility bills etc, not to prove who we are but to prove where we live, our address. The i.d card will not change that. Even a driving licence, which shows an address, may not be sufficient to prove the current address of the holder.

ID cards can be forged, the same way that passports are, so you get joe bloggs, or mr singh who has an ID card, it's forged, but because they have one it proves they are legit, sorry doesn't work for me.

A while back wasn't there talk of a combined passport ID card which was going to cost us all about £100? I don't think that's a very good idea.

all documents can be forged if you have the money to pay for it. How do you think some get benefits in Britain that are not entitled to it, present various pieces of ID, and maybe it's not quite hey presto but lein time they can sign on. There has to be a better way than an ID card.

Duncer, stop all foreign aid until they can sort out our economy. The billions that wafts out could be used to begin to balance the books, then look at aid again when the situation has settled.

sorry no, Cameron if he wants to stay in power better start coming up with the goods. That means sticking to your promises, even some, but reneging the whole time has made him look weak and foolish. As to aid why should Britain shell out billions, to what avail. There are still hungry people in Africa, India, even though many are now becoming players on the world stage. He pledged billions in aid, but i honestly think this money could be better spent at home.
