Anyway.....getting back to the point raised.......

Whatever the 'reasoning' or the PR behind the decision to bring Malala back to the Britain, if it softens attitudes to the UKs involvement in the Muslim world and makes just a couple of potential Jihadists think twice before 'joining up', then I think it is well worth it.

Not forgetting, of course, that she is a supremely brave 14 year old girl who has taken a stand *for* something which she knew was placing her in danger, and the world, as a whole, had a duty to stand up and recognise that.

Oh Lordy Lord!!! I wish I didn't have a hot date and had time to research but I do know that when I lived in Calgary the Canadians took pride in welcoming and treating victims like this young girl.

Perhaps somebody could, but i am not in receipt of previous "largesse" offered upon the NHS.

But again, the OP question was why does it seem to be always the UK and my unanswered question as "have they changed the rules re. private patients in NHS beds.

Indeed.........I wasn't "bemoaning" just enquiring.

If equipment is on loan to a private hospital, the private hospital will be paying for it, and very likely taking NHS patients - lots of patients are treated in private facilities (with the NHS paying) if the NHS is full.

boxtops...that has always been the case as far as i can remember, but as naomi has pointed out, there is now provision for NHS beds in NHS hospitals to be used for paying private patients............. something of which i was not aware.

Boxy, I know - but it still means it isn't available for use by the NHS for NHS patients. I also know the NHS pay for private beds when necessary. The system needs a thorough overhaul - but as I said, that's another issue.
