George sits in first class with a standard ticket. His aide tells the ticket collector he couldn't possibly sit in standard. In the end he forks out £160.

If there's a question here, I suppose it's how much money is it worth to avoid sitting with non-old Etonians for two hours?

Apparently he has other people to do his arguing and paying on his behalf, blissfully unaware all the while - that's proper posh, that is.

All credit to the ticket collector though; there's far to much fare dodging about, imo

humber, they can and do issue spot fines, have seen it any number of times. Those without the correct ticket, or some with no ticket. Buses are as bad.

I think if you go straight to the train manager he can sell you an upgrade, either on the spot or when they get to your seat. But if you wait till he reaches you before asking, it's too late, as you've already been sitting there. What the position is if you remain seated but send a minion to haggle, I don't know.
Stand corrected em. There does seem to be a lot of it about though

WELL DONE "JNO" IN NOMINATING A BEST ANSWER! SO FEW ABers DO THIS DESPITE THE EFFORT, TIME AND HUMOUR OF REPLIES - AB much better than TV when the wife's watching "Strictly"!
ALSO WELL DONE "humbersloop" on Your Recognition As A Great Stimulator Of This Debate.
For concise-ness in going for the jugular, good manners and humour: you are THE deserved winner in mine and jno's eyes.
Kind Regards to All,
