Savile's victims to sue for millions

....that's according to today's Daily Mail. But how can they as they have no evidence, and the guy is not here to defend himself? I am definitely not saying these people are lying, but i thought proof was vital in court. And without proof surely anyopne can step forward and say Savile abused them, to claim a payout, can't they?

Well, first lets not jump the gun here.I do not think it unreasonable for some of these individuals, vulnerable minors at the time of these alleged abuses, should be due some compensation from the institutions and organisations who had a duty of care whilst they were on their premises.

I think you may well get some opportunistic types trying it on for the money - people are people - but the police, professional experienced interrogators that they are will be looking for the lies ,the inconsistencies in the narrative. In this sort of crime where no forensic or material evidence is available, the accusation becomes everything, and I think these stories will be checked for internal consistency and consistency with statements from other victims.

they are going to go for those who were responsible for turning a blind eye, that includes if the paper is to be believed, the BBC, NHS and education authorities, good luck to them i say. it's going to a very long job to prove, i hope those who were abused get some compensation and closure. What an evil man he was

But Em, what would money do to help the victims of something that happened decades ago?

If there's any compo to be had I'd rather see it go into a big pot to be spread around various charities.

Evian - compensation is like saying 'sorry, we did you wrong, this proves it, this proves we believe you'

I'm talking about the vulnerable people who were in the care of the authorities, the ones who had Savile invited into their lives.

unfortunate this was not brought to life when he was around to face his accusers...cash will not make it go away ....will the BBC et al root out any remaining pervs..there are bound to be others

this evil man is now dead, which is just as well. And money won't compensate the victims, but it might give a big slap in the face to the BBC who seemed to have been culpable of intentional suppression of his activities. Had those who were assaulted been believed for instance in the BBC, then his reign of sexual abuse would not have gone on for so long. who thought it a good idea to let him have access with his own set of keys to a high security mental health institution, with any luck that person is dead as well. I hope those that the cases that can be proven will get some satisfaction in knowing justice has finally been seen to be done.

The victims of this sad episode are the important ones and should get all the help possible .I was just thinking it has also be a shock to those who lived during those years and probabally donated because of js .We give and I think they should just rename and reinvent it and carry on the great work they are doing.

presumably most were too young to do so, ichkeria. That's often the problem with abusers of various sorts: they pick on the weak and vulnerable.

As to how you tell which ones are telling the truth and which are lying: well, that's what courts are for, isn't it?

Indeed - so therefore comments suggesting they were ignored or not taken seriously seem out of place. I wasn't blaming them for not complaining.

I wasn't saying that the victims were money grabbing schemers but that some newspapers try to show them in that light.
