I suspect they want to get married there precisely because the church doesn't want them. I've tried to imagine if it would bother me were I in that position, but it's hard to do so when I am not. I suspect I would be happy with a civil partnership for the legal side of things, but my sheer bloody mindedness would probably make me want to take them on.
