The new archbishop of Canterbury
I've been reading up on some of his views and am quietly pleased that such an apparently progressive ABC has been elected...except...
...am I the only person who finds it weird having an Archbishop of Canterbury called Justin??
It's a bit like having a king called Trevor or Queen Kylie.

How do you feel about his opposition to same sex marriages and the appointment of gay bishops
/// He is considered an opponent of same sex marriage and the appointment of gay bishops. ///
Or the fact that he is an old Etonian (posh boy) or his past career as an oil industry executive?
/// An old Etonian, whose mother was private secretary to Winston Churchill, Dr Welby is thought to have been preferred because of the managerial skills developed during his career as an oil industry executive before he joined the Church. ///

Odd,isn't it how some names come with an image attached, but what image had you for a Justin, sp? To me, it's just the sort of name a boy at Eton in his time would have been christened with; dead posh! And he was at Eton.
I couldn't get used to a princess called Diana. My cousin is a Diana and she's a hairdresser, and the only Diana I knew of.

perhaps he was named after the Emperor Justinian, who buillt St Sophia in Istanbul, still one of the most magnificent churches? (Not a church any more, of course, it became a mosque and is now a museum.)
jno - sounds to me that you are writing about the Church of England, not the AoC, certainly your last line in brackets..............

[i]At a press conference the Bishop of Durham vowed to support female Bishops and pledged to examine his position on same sex marriage 'carefully and prayerfully' while he spoke out against 'exclusion.'
The bishop said the Church was facing deep differences on the issue of sexuality.
He said: 'It is absolutely right for the state to define the rights and status of people cohabiting in different forms of relationships, including civil partnerships.
'We must have no truck with any form of homophobia in any part of the church'
He said that he supported the House of Bishops' statement in the summer in answer to the Government's consultation on same sex marriage.
'But I also know I need to listen very attentively to the LGBT communities and examine my own thinking carefully and prayerfully.[i]
I like this man. He seems sensible.
