How disgraceful it was to hear Rod Stewart, who prides himself in his Scottish roots, getting the words of Burns marvellous song completely wrong.
Nowhere did the bard write "for the sake of" auld lang syne - it is "for auld lang syne".
When are you lot South of the border going to got it right?
Poor old Rabbie must be spinning in his grave every New Year's Eve when you guys make a mess of his beautiful anthem.
Please try this year to get it right.

It's a pity that the English are not being given a vote in the forthcoming referendum on Scottish independence; Salmond would win hands down if it were so.
Absolutely plautus.............
Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint stowp!
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowan fine;
But we've wander'd mony a weary fitt,
Sin' auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak a right gude-willie-waught,
For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
^ True. He's obviously not as clever as they say, otherwise he'd be campaigning for that to be the case, rather than for the English to keep their nose out of Scottish affairs.
"We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,"

Don't drink the water!!!
Are you sure those words are right Maggie? They don't make any sense.
One thing that has always irritated me is people singing "For auld lang Zyne" - the word is syne- as in since.
maggie - look at my first post - you're wasting your time as well - and now the bampot brigade have arrived - we'll probably end up arguing about the price of oxo cubes in Grimsby or somewhere.
JRB - your arze.
My apologies to my Scottish brethren. Apparently "paidl'd" means paddled. I took it to mean piddled.
We's only be arguing about the price of oxo cubes if we were scottish Wharton.
He did stand very respectful in the service though, he had even changed into a dark suit.
Can you not put in perspectus why he was singing this song and not the way he was singing it or how awful It was,he was singing it in respect of our dead YES our dead. Our young folk, our children, our sons our daughters all of those who have died in these wars.
I'd be willing to bet that you bams actually know the price of oxo cubes in Grimsby.
I've been to Grimsby..................it's grim.
//I'd be willing to bet that you bams actually know the price of oxo cubes in Grimsby.//

It's 58p, but I always ask if they'll no be having a sale.
Yes I agree fredkins, he did his best and in auld Lang Syne it did get all the congregation/audience shaking hands together which was a tribute in itself. Who cares if his voice isn't so good, he sang from the heart and meant it as his own tribute to those who gave their lives.
There aren't many places whose names describe so eloquently the locality, but Grimsby is one of them.
Thankyou ann86.
^^See!! Ah tellt ye. Hope that's no' 58p each.
