Have a good sweep out while the going is good and install David Dimbleby as the new Chairman of the BBC. Discuss.

Bring back Greg Dyke - he was doing a good job and was pushed out for political reasons.

Good idea
No split the role of DG to DG and Editor in charge of Media -as I heard suggested yesterday
DG is too wide a post
David Dimbleby gave a good interview on the Radio this morning making the point that the BBC has a perfectly suitable Chairman in Chris Patten, whom it would be wholly unnecessary to remove.
He did also though bring up the highly apt quote that one should "never waste a good crisis". i.e. take the opportunity to take actions which might in other circumstances be inappropriate or difficult.
Hosting Question Time is one thing, running a dinosaur like the BBC is a different ball game entirely.
David Dimbleby has applied for the jobs of both DG and Chairman before, presumably unsuccessfully.
From the BBC website:
The BBC Trust is directly accountable to licence fee payers; this is essential to maintaining the BBC's independence. This means we have a responsibility to operate transparently.

We consult licence fee payers and industry on important decisions, we conduct audience research and we use our network of Audience Councils to help keep us informed on the views of licence fee payers across the United Kingdom

Anyone here ever beeen consulted?
I've never been consulted on anything by the BBC. I suspect "We consult licence fee payers and industry on important decisions, we conduct audience research and we use our network of Audience Councils to help keep us informed on the views of licence fee payers across the United Kingdom" means "we occasionally watch points of view"
if anyone actually wants to join an Audience Council, rather than just moan about how the BBC never asks them anything, they could start here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/...and/get_involved.html

That's the England one; there are others
it's that ' we surveyed 2500 people ..' thing

I've never been one of these 2500 people
OK, so has anyone beeen approched by a BBC audience council member who are, allegedy, the link between the BBC and the public?
apply to one of the Regional Panels.
So I have to find out who and where my regional council is (that the majority of people don't know exist) and ask to go along to give my opinion? That's not very thorough 'research' IMO. No wonder the management needs overhauling.
Do you think that they ( BBC ) make it deliberately difficult, Zac ?.
I'm getting that distinct impression Tony.
So am I, Zac.
I would like Ian Hislop to bring it up on HIGNFY this Friday. Outraged of Cleckhuddersfax.
LOL, good idea Zac.
According to the site they are not recruiting at the moment, so you don't join unless they think you are suitable.
I think that's to join the panel who then interview these thousands of people who apply to go along and give their opinion vulcan.
Come now! Auntie knows best.
