Why aren't our leaders prepared to condemn Israel, for these continuous attacks?

Retaliation for rocket attacks from Gaza, and the right to self defence is one thing, but the widespread slaughter that Israel is inflicting on innocent civilians is not the answer surely.

/// President Barack Obama spoke separately to Israeli and Egyptian leaders yesterday as the violence in Gaza intensified. In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he reiterated US support for Israel’s right to self-defence. ///

/// Tonight, David Cameron urged Israel to 'do everything possible' to end the crisis. In a phone call with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, he expressed sympathy for the continued 'unacceptable' rocket attacks. ///

The Qassam rockets are more of a psychological weapon. They instill fear in the Israelis but most of them do no damage or injuries as we can see from modeller's link earlier.

They are homemade weapons fueled by sugar and fertiliser and are very cheap to manufacture, (about $500).
"They instill fear in the Israelis"

and as we already know fear is the aim of most terrorist groups
<and as we already know fear is the aim of most terrorist groups>

that's true

The Stern Gang, Irgun and other Zionist terrorist groups had similar aims when they were lobbing hand grenades into cafes frequented by offduty British servicemen, bombing hotels and machine gunning British establishments.

Currently, I expect the sight of an Israeli combat jet or gun toting Israeli soldiers sitting on a tank near any arab settlement is liable to provoke fear among the civilian population.

After all, the Israeli establishment are well practised in shielding their military people who perpetrate attrocities against unarmed arab civilians, foreign aid workers and journalists.

It's the big picture that is key and Israel is winning the long battle; Israel is grabbing more and more land, more and more jews are being immigrated from the former Soviet Union, USA etc and the arabs are being squeezed out or into shrinking ghettoes.

I expect that strategically the Zionists are prepared to weather the occasional spat and loss of life, especially when it is the non-jews (the unter menschen) who are mostly being killed
you could work for he BBC with that amount of bias
Imagine a peace conference sometime in the future. The Israelis bring these preconditions to the table.
1 The 250,000 settlers on the West Bank are staying. They're facts on the ground.
2 The army will maintain an oppressive presence there in order to protect said settlers.
3 Israel reserves the right to assassinate anyone who has the temerity to oppose conditions 1 + 2, or indeed, any Israeli action.
It's not going to be easy to find a way to a lasting peace.
Oh yeah and dont forget the bit about israel has the right to defend itself and retaliate when rockets are constantly being fired at them

Ifund #About ten years ago Arafat ,at Camp David , could have achieved 90% of what he wanted but under pressure from the hard liners he turned it down.#

Camp David

ifund Congratulations ! You have earned your pro-terrorist medal .You have shown your Hamas friends have only killed hundreds of their fellow Palestinians not thousands , and reports/videos of them using children as human shields , and mistreating their political prisoners, is only Israeli propaganda . So that's all right then.

Clinton lied about his sexual activities so that means Arafat didn't reject the Camp David peace plan despite all the reports to the contrary. Interesting logic.

Maybe this link may help .

I have no illusions about either side. I think jackthehat summed up the problems.

She is condemning those things ! Are you in favour of them ?
-- answer removed --
JtH has it pretty much right IMO.

In the interests of clarity Infundibulum - which lands have Israel stolen that offer the provocation and mandate for continued rocket strikes from Gaza? The State of Israel?
ifund Your highlighted # Israel's continued 'appropriation' of Palestinian land and the construction of Jewish enclaves in the face of UN mandates to desist.#
Your words #I support ALL of them but the two that I highlighted . #

I still don't get it . She is against Israel taking their land but you disagree with her. So unless I have missed something you are in favour, which I doubt but that's how it appears.
-- answer removed --
ifund #. I am not for Israel taking any more land, NOR keeping the land they took from the original owners #
OK So you do agree with jackthehat. That is exactly what she said.
