Seriously - what's the big deal with appointing women as bishops?

And for that matter - is there any chance of a female Dr Who???

that's the point sp. The C of E sits in the House of Lords and is the Established (official) Church of the UK. If they want to take all their own decisions then they should relinquish that right. While they have a voice by right in how the UK is run then they have a responsibility to consider the opinion of all of the UK, not just their own.

R&S is only two clicks of the mouse!
It is current news though, so worthy of one click not two.
Cricketers can confirm you, dotty?

Howzat?
Dunno, I'm stumped
david shepherd it says in my christening bible, i was told he was a cricketer, i was confirmed in 1969
1 Tim 2:8-11 — "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. [Men are to lead; women are to be modest, learning quietly, and in submission; in this way, they prove their claim to godliness."

Cant go against the Bible now can they?
There'll never be a female Dr who.

Dr who has two hearts, that's two more than most females.

(bitter and twisted...meeee... nooooo, never)
He was Dotty, and a good one

you sure it wasn't the other one, the one who used to get all agitated when the score was 111?

Re the OP - It doesn't
As long as there's nothing in the Bishops job description about driving I don't see why a woman couldn't do the job.
it seems it was the lay Anglicans rather than the bishops or clergy who voted against. (The incoming archbishop of Canterbury called it a "very grim day" - on twitter, if you please.) So it's not reactionary church authorities, it's the members who've carried the day. That's democracy for you.

The Laity voted in favour too, by 134 to 72,but under the rules, the majority needed was two thirds and so the resolution failed to pass.
What I want to know is how religion manages to avoid the law we all have to abide by.

Totally wrong.
My auntie is a nun. For the last 60 years (she is 80 or so) she has been working in care with the elderly, with disabled children, with AIDs sufferers, in the UK and in Africa, tended to the dieing, the dead and the bereaved, including as a counsellor, as a carer a taxi service, a listener, a mentor and advisor, as well as cooking for them, organising shopping trips and holidays and days out. She does this as a volunteer with only a room and food in a convent, with no salary and all her possesions belonging to the church. She is still doing it.

I admire her life and her achievements, she has won awards and been granted honors and is happy doing what she does, but still part of me thinks she would have been a wonderful mum and grandmother.
Dot, David Shepherd and his wife, Grace, were friends of my parents. When I was little I used to call him 'Curly'. God(?) knows why! His hair was a straight as a die! Nice man.
Everyone knows you need male genitalia just for the bashing.

Why are folk asking rational questions about religious dogma ? If the group realise how God favours males in control of his religion then who are you to try to point out how unfair God is being ? It's a bit like wanting 'thought control' over others. If they believe in the rest of what the religion stands for why should they bow to popular opinion in order to win approval ? Those who disagree are free to form or join a religion more aligned to their own views.
OG, perhaps that is the answer, have separate groups for women only, they do in other fields, so why not the church. Give it a zingy name and we are off and running.
