Things have obviously moved on a bit from

then.
Isn't there a place somewhere along the M62 where the motorway lanes diverge to avoid a house that the owners refused to sell when it was being built? This story reminds me of that.

/// In the People's Republic of China, during most of the Communist era, private ownership of property was abolished, making it easy for residents to be moved on - but now the laws have been tightened up and it is illegal to demolish property by force without an agreement. ///
/// Property owners in China that refuse to move to make way for development are known as 'Nail Householders' referring to a stubborn nail that is not easy to remove from a piece of old wood and cannot be pulled out with a hammer. ///
Ah, they put things so simple don't they?

I know it's not . I was looking at the tarmac , the divisions between the roads and the markings on the roads. There is also the other point how are the residents going to cross the roads. There is no sign of a tunnel, without it the couple obviously can't stay there . Also how about the utilities , gas, water, electricity, sewers . I can't see the authorities laying them on.
I came across this and other pictures of building in China
