Rotherham Council have said "...the children were "not indigenous white British" and that it had concerns about UKIP's stance on immigration."

The obvious sub-text being the council feel UKIP and therefore UKIP's supporters are racist.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people manage to think that being concerned about immigration equals racism.

Leading question alert - Is the only prejudice shown in this sorry affair from Rotherham Council?

Q title should read "Foster Children Taken from UKIP Supporters"
The ban on them fostering is clearly wrong.

I hope it is not the policy that children have to be fostered by foster parents from the same ethnic background. Their colour, ethnicity should not matter as long as they end up with people who will care for them and love them.

If this couple sued the council for slander, I would think they would have a good chance of winning.
I doubt they'd have a case for slander, since all the council said was that they thought Ukip - not the couple themselves - were racist, and they seem to have said it only to the couple, not to others. It's the couple who've chosen to publish the allegation more widely, and "publication" to others is needed in cases of slander.

If I tell people you'e a fool, I may be slandering you. If I just tell you you're a fool, I have no case to answer.

As to the truth of the matter, who knows? Ukip does seem to draw its support from the same sort of people as the BNP

So the council may have grounds for worrying about the couple's attitude to the children they foster; and their duty is to the children first, not to the foster parents. The story doesn't say where the children come from, but I would have thought, on the basis of the limited facts in the Telegraph, that the council at least have cause for concern.
the Telegraph has a bit more on this with a quote from social services

"the fact of the matter is I have to look at the children's cultural and ethnic needs. The children have been in care proceedings before and the judge had previously criticised us for not looking after the children's cultural and ethnic needs, and we have had to really take that into consideration with the placement that they were in."

Asked what the specific problem was with the couple being Ukip members, Mrs Thacker told BBC Breakfast: "We have to think about the clear statements on ending multi-culturalism for example.

"These children are from EU migrant backgrounds and Ukip has very clear statements on ending multiculturalism, not having that going forward, and I have to think about how sensitive I am being to those children."

As usual, social workers are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Who can blame them for being cautious?
Social workers like this are damaging children's lives .............. poor little children, they won't understand.
Typical of the spiteful attitude of left wing aparatchiks. She's over- stepped the mark this time and will undoubtably lose her job, and I for one, am glad.
It's par for the course that certain people on here will seek to defend the indefensible.
Seek to defend the indefinsible

So basically "I've made up my mind on limited facts and anybody with an opion contrary to mine is 'certain people' and just wrong"

So arrogant post of the day award goes to thetaliesin

Having listened quite carefully to this I think neither side is being wholely honest.

This couple were in talks with the council over the matter

UKIP stands for ending multi-culturalism and the council have a legal obligation to lookafter the childrens cultural identities - if the couple couldn't commit to that then they clearly had to be moved.

Is UKIP a racist organisation?

close but probably not quite - they call for an end to multiculturalism

That may involve descriminating against people on grounds of their "culture" and that *could* have a racist element
Can someone please explain exactly how multiculturalism could possibly be ended?

I ask, because even if Britain had absolutely no immigrants, it would still be a multicultural country (crofters working in the Scottish Highlands share very little culturally with data analysts from Peckham in London).
Apparently there is a shortage of foster carers to cope with children as these...one of the reasons I gave up...
It is neither the couple or UKIP who are the racist, but those who are against indigenous white British couples, fostering non indigenous white children.
Crofters and Peckhamites don't enjoy, say, music, literature, theatre, cinema, good food, nice wine, conversation and on and on?

Give yourself peace.
As the children are from "EU migrant backgrounds" would they not be better served if they were returned to their own country? A place like Rotherham must seem very alien to them.
would they not be better served if they were returned to their own country?

Have you actually thought that thru Sandy? I doubt if they would be here if conditions / circumstances were ok in their home country.
They may be some of those hundreds of Roma children being brought to this country.

What does your point have to do with this story?

Are the kids non white?

I gather From the BBC story that everyone involved is white.
Another point.

Where have you got this bizarre idea that anyone is against cross-race fostering?

Are you making up a controversy, because this is completely new to me.
Whoops AOG

I completely misread the BBC report.

I withdraw my first question.

And isn't that what I put?

fostering non indigenous white children

/// Where have you got this bizarre idea that anyone is against cross-race fostering? ///

No one but you mentioned cross race fostering.

[i]She said the social worker told her: "We would not have placed these children with you had we known you were members of UKIP because it wouldn't have been the right cultural matchquote[

[i]Rotherham Borough Council said the children were "not indigenous white British" and that it had concerns about UKIP's stance on immigration]
I can't help noticing that the left leaning idealogues here would never dream of using a word where 3 paragraphs will do.
Try to keep it short & pithy, chaps.

The 'left leaning ideologues' is a big give-away, so obviously you are not referring to the rather lengthy reply I gave to my friend sp1814?
