Why do they give such low sentences

He's got a much deserved life sentence. He'll have to serve a minimum of 5 years before he's even considered for release and might serve much longer.

It does say he has been jailed indefinitely. A first rewiew in five years doesn't mean that when he gets out.

No, he's been given an indefinite sentence. The very purpose of these is that somebody who is a threat can be kept in jail for the rest of his natural if need be. What has been said is that he'll get a review after five years. There's no way he'll be let out then. If he'd been given a finite sentence, say ten years, he'd be out after six, with good behaviour, threat or no threat. This way he can be kept locked up until he's really safe to be around.

em this is the sentence you want ... we may well be in all this natural life, the indeterminate sentence is the only vehicle to achieve that aim.

These sentences have to be reviewed and every 5 years seems reasonable - it does not and never has meant he will be released at his very first review

just what SeaJayPea said. Indefinitely isn't a low sentence. It's about as near as they can get to "forever".
