"It is unthinkable that any sexual act with an animal is punished without proof that the animal has come to any harm," he said, adding that animals are capable of showing what they do, or do not, want to do.
"We see animals as partners and not as a means of gratification. We don't force them to do anything. Animals are much easier to understand than women," Mr Kiok claimed.
Do you find this a little worrying from our Teutonic friends? I suppose I can agree with Mr Kiok's last point though!

it is worth inquiring why this is a crime. Is it really to protect animals from harm? (The laws go back well before any notion of animal welfare and as the story mentions, the penalty used to be wildly disproportionate to just about anything.) Or is it just the yuk factor involved with any unusual sexual activity?

If you actually asked your animals, which would they prefer?
