due to being on maternity leave, i have a lot less money than i used to (rightly so - after all i'm not exactly being a productive team member atm) Anyway, i'm getting about 1/4 of what i would normally expect my net wages to be, so am obv having to cut down a lot.
was just thinking today that i haven't have any garlic olives recently and then realised they are expensive (hadn't really thought about it before as we've been in the lucky position of having more left over at the end of the month)
I miss
olives
serrano ham
lottery tickets
newspaper
take aways

but still buy beer and pay my cleaner! What would be you last luxury to go?

I know I'm really hard up in those weeks when I can't afford to buy the Radio Times, which I regard as 'one of life's little luxuries'. (I know that it's the most expensive TV guide but I buy it for the detailed BBC radio listings, which simply aren't available in printed form elsewhere).

Similarly, if there's only cheap Cheddar in the house (rather than a decent Gorgonzola, for example) it's likely to be because I'm somewhat impecunious that week.

With regard to your list, Bednobs:
I hate olives.
I'm not sure that I've ever tasted serrano ham.
Lottery tickets remain high on my list of priorities, even when I'm really hard up. (It's a small price for a dream!).
I regard newspapers as expensive luxuries but I'll often buy the 'i' for 20p.
Take-aways? I've only had a handful over the past decade. (I can cook a good meal for around a quid; I hate the thought of paying £5 to £10 for something that's not much better)
Beer? That's almost essential (but there have been times when I've only managed to buy a 4-pack of 'value' bitter to last me a week. Sob!)
A cleaner? I simply don't clean anything! (However I regard using a 'service wash' at the launderette[rather than doing it myself], where I get all of my clothes neatly folded and bagged, with my socks carefully paired together, is a 'luxury' that I'd find it hard to do without).

My daily paper................then the cleaner.........then the gardener.
Bloody hell, I'm on 37k a year now and still struggle til the next pay day
Same year, same place........

Sorry, wrong thread - too many Staropramens.
Nice to come across a fellow Bill Nelson fan Duncer!
Not too much of an income to be able to suffer a cut, if I had to choose then would be turn the heating down and maybe have a glass of vino in the evening.
