I agree with you on that, naomi. I have said it before and I will say it again, there are elements of McCarthyism being repeated here. Things should possibly be kept quiet up to charging, so if there isn't anything, the person can go free. Ok against this, the very fact of arresting can bring out other victims.....but where is the balance, I guess.
"Bought us girls a box of chocolates" Hmm. Obviously a deviant and a slimey one at that! As said in that post, he's a nice bloke but he also has the unenviable, if well rewarded, task of putting the lipstick on a pig, as it were, and hoping nobody notices the porcine or ugly nature of his clients.
As to reporting arrests, there's an argument against it based on the ignorance and prejudice of those of the public who assume some degree of guilt, whatever the outcome. Not sure that public ignorance is a sound basis for any law. And it's a bit pointless to talk of past cases, like John Leslie's. He was accused by several but not charged or not proceeded against. But the trouble is that the practice and laws of evidence applied were rather different back then and, inevitably, people will think that he got away with something which, had it not been sexual,he would have been charged and pursued for. That's perhaps a bad thing to think but it is not unreasonable, though it may be unfair to him.
