I would have been angry aswell.  To think that your talking to a reporter and then to be squirted in the face infront of a large crowd.  I think it's a bit embarrassing for him.  But I wouldn't have pursued the matter any further.
To be fair, I think I would have been a bit hacked off as well.  Although no great fan of his, it has to be said that he is one of the few stars who never seem to mind spending time chatting to his fans and as butter1 says it was a little embarrassing for him. Can't imagine why the guys did it, but I don't think I would bother suing them!!  Also can't help thinking that the Happy Slapping thing probably started as someones idea of a little joke!!
scotland yard have announced that cruise is pressing charges of assault against the pranksters

The way Tom Cruise handled it was brilliant. He remained calm and asked a simple question....why did you do it...i was only giving you an interview!!!!

He has the right to sue, these prank shows are not funny anyway, we have seen it all before, worse still it could have been acid not water.
I say lighten up a bit.
I'm sure that if it had been a prank perpetrated by some tedious individual, he would have let it go, but having found out that a TV company was behind it, he's obviously decided to teach them a lesson by suing their ass. Fair play to him.  I also think Prescott was right to punch that egg thrower. I mean if you want to chuck eggs and water at people, fine go ahead, but be prepared to accept the consequences, whether that be a law suit or a smack in the gob.
..by the way, as they pointed out on the news - imagine the mayhem that would have ensued if it had been Russell Crowe. lol.
briefly heard the story. It depends on the person though doesnt it. Can the guy who squirted Cruise get him done for defamation of character as he did call him a 'jerk' lol. What tv company was it?

Tom is a major american icon, and they will all know that they are vulnerable to terrorist attack, as you say, this could have been acid. It also was carried out in a situation where he chooses to make himself vulnerable, specifically for the benefit of your ordinary punter, so to abuse this is just awful. I think that for everyone's sake, it is really important that he presses charges. He did handle it very well indeed. What was terrible to see was the 'comic' and his pathetic reaction.

Is it right that he will now be offered protection services from John Prescott?

I think he was right to be angry.  I am not a Cruise fan, but I think he handled it very well.  Had it been a Brit, they would have punched the guy.

I agree with the answers saying he handled it very well.  I'm particularly please to see Londondave and MargeB's suggestions as that was my thought.  It's also just such a poor show of respect on the part of the "comic", as Cruise said, he was just giving an interview.  I only hope, for the sake of British Tom Cruise fans, that he will continue to be so generous with his time at future premieres.

Neti - I really hope that your last comment was a joke.  Otherwise I'm really dissapointed.  :-(

No acw it wasn't a joke - as MargeB says think John Prescott, or Vinny Jones, or anyone down the local pub.  Well this is my impression of Britain at present. Over on this small island, the Brits are well-known for fighting and for giving the rest of us a bad name.  I don't want a lecture, thank you, this is merely my opinion.
guy seems to have done it for money, as I read the news, so Cruise (whom I don't particularly like) is right to stop him getting any. If that deters other prank shows, so much the better.
I totally agree with MargeB, he does put himself out there more than most stars and that water could have been anything.  I think he handled it extremely well and is to be admired.  But has anybody thought this is exactly the attention that the Channel 4 programme wanted, now everyone will watch it when it comes on to see what will happen next.  If it does come on that is.  Dont know what the name of programme is ?????????
I wasn't going to actually.  Now I know that I'm not entitled to my opinion of my own fellow countrymen, I most certainly won't state my ideas.  Thanks for warning me first though.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone! I am a cruise fan and mostly agree with everyone, he did have a right to be a bit cheesed off and like marge said it could have been anything although at the end of the day it was only water but he did handle it well but i agree with butter and  libertie i wouldn't have persued it any further. I do admire him for the amount of time he spends with the fans at premieres and hope he continues to do so :0)

I agree with Neti and if someone did that to me I would take a swing at them....especially if I was out on such an occasion wearing my good clothes.

I am a 50 year old law abiding female who has never raised a hand in anger in my life and feel that "the media" have taken the Jonathan Routh idea too far, BTW I didn't think it was funny then either.

As for pursuing the matter, someone has to to put a stop to this stupidity.

PS I am not even a Tom Cruise fan !!

It was a cheap stunt and he has right to be annoyed, personally I thought it was funny as I think TC is completely up his own ass and I don't like the guy.  Lets face it theres no harm done.   Pressing charges will just make him look even more stupid.

if cruise doesn't sue then channel four can use the comedy sketch in its hilarious celebrity windup programme - i think its right that cruise stops them, it was a stupid gag and infront of his girlfriend and hundreds of fans on a night when the actor was celebrating the successful a film at its premier, an important night for the film and the actor ruined / overshadowed by ruddy channel four trying to be funny. Hope cruise stops talking to channel four for any programme, and wouldn't be suprised if he wasn't so keen to make himself so vunerable to talk to random press people and fans in the future.
