We constantly hear tales of 'Child poverty' where Mothers go without so as to feed their children, we also hear of pensioners who have to go to bed early because they can't afford to heat their homes.
I even heard on the radio last night a pathetic case of an Invalid old lady who now cannot afford her fuel bills, and that she is going to phone her energy supplier today and ask them to cut her off, and she will then light her house with candles, the only problem being that she will not be able to charge her wheel chair.
Yes, I know, Chuck - that's what I said. One father.
Anyhow, no doubt she got paid for this story. I wonder if that will affect her benefits?
I remember a while back a woman on the dole was paid to pose for topless photos after being in Wife Swap. She claimed she gave the money to charity but her money was stopped or reduced.
As long as all the benefits are legitimately claimed, then there is nothing anyone can do or say, she is at least pragmatic about the cuts due this next year.
She says she saved £250 a month in order to afford Christmas. Some people on high incomes can't do that. I'd like to know how she does...maybe a breakdown of her actual expenditures would help. All we know is that £111 a week goes towards housing.
I remember a story a few years ago about a woman who'd collected benefits over a number of years. She went without, and saved a good deal of it for her old age. Apparently that was not allowed, and the Government wanted it all back.
If her benefits are legitimately claimed , then this a non story .
I dont beleive there is any allegation of any wrong doing , unless i've missed something .
If one has an issue with the benefits system , then that is another matter entirely .
I admire her for her thrift but was she wise to blurt it out to the press. You can imagine others struggling on benefits cursing the silly c?w. Obvious Geo Osborne will use it to plan his next budget.
When my mil was alive she was getting £190 per week, plus the higher rate of mobility allowance each month and her rent and council tax paid, we used to pay her gas and electricity bills because she said she was skint, when she died we found twenty thousand pound in cash that she had put aside, this was found in a locked tin at the back of her wardrobe.
