How Will Youngsters Notice If A Tv Presenter Is Gay Or Not?

There's a parallel is the straight world. No-one ever criticises Paddy McGuiness, Danny Dyer, Jeremy Clarkson et al, for there overt heterosexuality.
Likewise there are many gay tv stars whose sexuality is irrelevent - Clare Balding, Alistair Appleton, Sue Perkins, Stephen K Amos, Simon Amstell, Evan Davies, Andrew Hayden-Smith, Stephen Fry and Mary Portas immediately spring to mind.
However, I notice that it's always the Carr/Norton/O'Grady triumvirate that gets referred to in any debate about gay presenters on telly...because they are easily identifiable because they are camp.
That isn't the whole story.

I've never heard of most of these let alone know that they are gay, so how do they expect them to have an effect on children?

That's a little surprising. I would've thought that Mary Portas, Sue Perkins and Stephen Fry and Evan Davies would have at least registered as recognisable to most people.
None of the presenters I mentioned work in children's television, so the question is moot.
However, Simon Amstell used to present T4, which is aimed at teenagers, and the point is - he was able to make throw-away remarks which identified him as gay in the same way that a straight presenter could (and did).
You don't have to be camp to be gay. I think many people think the two words are synonyms.

Very easy really. When a man refers to his boyfriend, you can assume he's gay. Same works with women who refer to their girlfriend, despite the colloquial usage of 'girlfriend' to mean 'female friend'.

But wait a minute, what if they haven't got a boy friend, and if they have, does everyone who is gay have to go through life, referring constantly to their boyfriend?

It's simply that children should understand that some kids have two daddies or two mummies and that some adults are married to someone of the same sex, and in general that homosexuality is normal.

I'm sure that whoever's pushing this as a neccessity in a world where they think homosexuality is something from, if you'll pardon the expression, a fairy story will eventually come into contact with young people in the real world and realise that this stuff just doesn't matter to them any more.
I have two teenage children and have been impressed by their and their group of friends acceptance of people for who they are sexually, ethnically, socially, yes, even gingers.
I think the BEEB may have missed the boat.
