Have a look at all the South American and Caribbean countries statistics. The us is still way ahead tho.
What I find additionally shocking are the news reports on the radio: this massacre is being described as 'the worst school shooting in american history'. So are we now at the point where these awful events are ranked in order of severity ?
Thanks for injecting some sanity, Zac to some highly suspect views.

Despite Obama's wailings (and were those tears crocodile - could almost rival Reagan for acting), the US ain't going to change its gun laws. It's in the constitution and to change that you need 70% support in both Houses and with the NRA et al....fat chance - a bit like the structure of the Synod to prevent change.

The only action can be at State or City level - coincidentally, Connecticut has some of the tightest rules to acquisition, so the rules didn't help prevent this - as has been pointed out here several times, potential murderers/criminals will get them by hook or crook.

Lastly, I think that most of these "going postal" shootings have been committed by Caucasians.....I haven't got the stats on that but having lived through several over there, that is my memory of them.
My point too Chuck, however I used the term 'white'.....
^^^ Oops, DTC

/// Some interesting facts here ///

Homicide by firearms per 100,000 population.

Honduras -------- 68.43

El Salvador ------ 39.9

Jamaica ---------- 39.4
taking vicasso's point about a grim league table, my reading of zac's figures is that they're about homicide rates per se and measure one to one killings as well as multiple deaths.

I suppose my question is where are multiple gun murders most prevalent?

not that it helps people who are identifying their chidren's bodies today, I admit
Yes, AOG, and....?

Just thought I would help you out by highlighting the top three, seeing that you were good enough to provide the link.

That would seem about right since the US is populated by a high percentage of Caucasians.

It is interesting to note however that from the list of the Ten America's worst school massacres, one was committed by a Native American, one was South Korean, and one was Chinese, so that makes almost a third of them committed by non Caucasians.

AOG, it was a white man who killed 77 young people, Anders Breviik, and in America it seems to be a loner who has some sort of grudge, don't think ethnicity comes into it. Black on Black crime in the UK is a problem, drugs, respect and all that nonsense is seeing young people dying by gun and knife crime.
It isn't the top three. The US is top, as I pointed out.
If the US spent as much time disarming its own citizens as it does with trying to prevent North Korea or Iran from getting a bomb there would be less killings.

North Korea and Iran wants a bomb to defend themselves unlike the nutters in the US who parade themselves as normal citizens.
pdq they are not all nutters, a few very warped individuals, you can't condemn a whole country like that. North Korea is a rogue nation and if it's armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons no one knows what it could do.

I don't know what you are quoting? But I was quoting Homicide by firearms per 100,000 population.

These are the figures for the USA.

% of homicides by firearm - 60

Number of homicides by firearm - 9,146

Homicide by firearm rate per 100,000 pop - 2.97

Rank by rate of ownership - 1

Average firearms per 100 people - 88.8

Average total all civilian firearms- 270,000,000

USA is shown to have had only 2.97 homicides by firearms per 100,000 population.
Apologies AOG. I had confused the columns.
AOG...

"I wonder if he is also brought to tears when the caskets of his war dead arrive back on the shores of the good old US of A?"

Perhaps he is. Perhaps he sits in the oval office, late at night, blubbing like a schoolgirl.

I don't see why you can't believe that a man, a father, could be so upset about what happened at that school.

No, I think you do understand. I think you're just trolling me.

The Gun Owners of America, an anti-gun control lobby group, think that those calling for greater gun control have "blood on their hands". Their solution to such massacres carried out in schools and universities? Arm teachers, support staff in schools.
