Not sure that is true Fred. The CCTV and the testomony of the two officers varies. They say in the official police log leaked to the Daily Telegraph that the incident was witnessed by several members of the public who were shocked. The CCTV shows no gathering of witnesses. That undermines the rest of their account.
it's not funny though is it. Whether one likes the man or not, he lost his job over this, and it is a problem because if the serving police officer wasn't actually on the scene, it's fabrication of evidence, not good for him or the Met
I tite polce federation may have a case to answe here. They seem to have had the PC pleb t-shirts made up and distributed very quickly! The Sun - having been sold what look like a real pup of a story hardly gives it a mention.I really hope this newsaper is implicated in this!
there is footage from the time that Mitchell wheeled his bicycle out of the gates of No 10, you cannot tell what is being said obviously, but given the time span it seems quite unlikely that he would have had all that time to mouth off not just so many expletives, but the rest of the so called diatribe. He is seen cycling off into the distance, and there does not seem from the footage to be anyone else around. It was shown any number of times last evening on channel 4.
// I would never believe a word Plod say unless there was other evidence to back it up. //
Neither would I necessarily. The reason I was convinced it had to be Mitchell who was lying was quite simply because the police had absolutely nothing to gain from making up his rant. Nothing whatsoever.
Conversely, Mitchell would have had good reason to deny it if their version was true.
Lot of fuss about not much. Someone lost their rag it seems. Not a good example but we all have bad days. Disagreement on the exact insult hurled ? Who should care ? No one uses the definition of plebeian, or gets overly uptight about the word pleb these days. It's a mild put down as one might use when arguing with someone. Mitchell should have been reprimanded for his behaviour unbecoming an MP. It's up to him and his party whether he resigned. As to what insults were hurled according to the police account, that is irrelevant. Regardless who gives the more accurate account. All concerned should move on and stop milking being in the public eye.
^ There's actually a bit more to it than a fuss about someone losing their rag OG.
The fuss is about who's lying and why. Two people have been arrested and someone's lost their job and potentially had their career permanently damaged.
