Yes. These are the people who shaped our country. The reasons for disputes/wars etc. should be taught as well. Not just a series of dates.

All the History I learned at school was Kings and Queens and the Religious nutters. Never anything about Us ordinary folk. I actually believed that the prince if wales built the Pavilion in Brighton with his bare hands.until I learned to think for myself.

the servicemen who fought for Britain in WW1, WW2, came from many backgrounds, countries, and i would never believe anyone would not include those men and women in their remembrance service in November, you only have to watch those who march in the parade.

and I based my post on the link aog gave. Also of note is the women being dumped. Allowing the study of women in history is political correctness gone mad. The poor dears haven't even had the vote for a century yet. Women's role thoughout time has involved the darning of socks, any Eton boy knows that.

I think time is the governing factor here. A few hours study of history a week simply doesn't allow for any great detailed study of one particular aspect of history. A basic understanding of what shaped the political and cultural landscape of Britain should be aimed for.

Historical figures are important but so are modern figures. TBH I can't see how you can split the two!!
