those who protect abusers like Savile, and these men do everyone a disservice, as they can ply their vile trade, habits with impunity, let's hope that the cases like this become a lot less, and that those who do it go to jail for a long time.

/// Surely not, SP1814 ! Do you think we here in AB are in any danger? ///

Only certain members such as myself, considering how very many of you would wish me silenced.
AOG, I'm sure there's none here wish you silenced. Your posts add much needed colour to the discussions here in AB.
sp, now you know that isn't true, as some have already said a news blackout, can we still use that term by the way, has had this on hold until now.
em10

Just consulted my PC dictionary, and apparently the accepted phrase is 'news urban-out'.

For want reasons do you think that this story has not been more widely reported?

I mean, apart from on the BBC and Daily Mail?
I don't understand how people can get turned on and get sexual pleasure from torturing, raping and hurting children who are more than likely crying and begging them to stop. Have they no conscience? Are they mentally sick? I just can't comprehend it at all. Any psychologists out there who might be able to provide some kind of explanation?

Well when I first spotted this on the Mail's web site, I conducted a Google search to see if it had been reported by other outlets, (seeing how the Daily Mail makes some a little jittery) alas I could not find another report on it.

After I had entered it, I carried out a more detailed search and found that it had just been reported on BBC Oxford.
sp, joking non??
dave, one thing that seems to be a constant, is that those who have been abused, often become abusers themselves. I read about this a while back, and watched a rather disturbing documentary about the same.
It takes a good deal of effort by social services, and government agencies to break this awful cycle, to stop those who it has happened tom becoming so disturbed that they in turn become the abuser.
sorry that is a typo, happened to
Not all victims of abuse go on to be abusers. It's a convenient excuse similar to those trotted out by people caught after committing dreadful acts of violence. "I was brutalised by watching violent Tom + Jerry cartoons as a child."
sandy, those being interviewed in this documentary came up with a lot of evidence that this does indeed go on. I don't think it's an excuse either.
AOG

Do you think that perhaps you were jumping the gun somewhat? How long did you wait for other news outlets to pick up the story? When I walked past our coffee area at work at about 12:30, it was on the BBC News channel.

If the story had been on the Daily Mail site and within 24 hours it had still not gained any further traction, then I'd understand your point.

But as it stands, it looks like your initial suspicions that there was some shady news blackout are unfounded.
em10

Yes. Tongue firmly in cheek.
thought so..
The story is currently on ITV news as I type.
sure it is, but it does seem to have been embargoed
em10

Whilst certain aspects of the case (eg. evidence that may only be heard whilst the court is cleared), I can't see how you could say there's been a news embargo.

So far four national, and one local paper have been identified as carrying the story, plus ITV, BBC and now I see Channel Four news have carried the story.

If this case has been subject to an embargo, it has to be the absolute worst ban ever.
