/// "But one of the reasons why I agreed to come to Paris is that I won't receive any salary. It will all go to a local children's
charity." ///
Since the Beckhams now live in England, why has he not only chose to play for a French team but also to award his salary to a French Children' Charity?
Surely if his dream is for one day to become 'Sir David', wouldn't it be best for him to play for an English club and donate to an English Children's Charity?

If you listen to what Beckham says, you'll discover that he refuses to play for any English team at that level because he only ever wanted to play for Manchester United, did so for years, is associated only with that club, is loyal to it, and is still a fan of it. Manchester United were not bidding for his services.
Of course, aog, it's perfectly open to you to mind- read and ascribe other thoughts, hopes, or motives to the man, but it would be good if you could provide evidence in support of your belief.
I do wonder what is left of £3 million if President Hollande's plans for high taxation on high earners go through. Maybe if all goes direct to charity no tax burden falls on David Beckham

normally, but he isn't playing for a British club, he is going to be at the French club for 5 months, and all the money he earns goes to a French charity. Had he been playing for a club in Britain i believe he would have donated the money to a British charity. Besides when one talks of charity begins at home, that is usually when our various governments dish out billions in aid, often to vile despots, tyrants who then squander it, instead of feeding, and educating their people.

Ok so hes giving his salary to charity, whoopee dooopy do.....hes also got a deal to net him millions from merchandise whilst hes there.
so i'm guessing as a percentage of what he earns over the same period, its probably like one of us giving the small change in our pockets to charity.
I'd also guess its on the advice of his pr advisor or whatever he uses to try and deflect any of the bad press.
Overrated show pony nothing more, hes got by on looks rather than talent, rooney should be so lucky unfortunately you dont get nicknamed shrek for nothing, Scholes, far better player...ginger !
what has beckham won at international level ?
do you think Messi or ronaldo would have gone to a second rate side in the USA whilst at the peak of their career if they could still cut it at top euro league level ?

aog, is your understanding of the proverb, "Charity begins at home", "Giving to charity must be to the benefit of people in your own country before you give to the benefit of foreigners " ? So, if I were to give to Oxfam, I should give the money to any British charity benefiting Britons; Guide Dogs for the Blind, say; first, and only give what was left over to relieve starvation outside Britain? On that principle, it might, or must, follow that no money from here would ever benefit any foreigner.Only until every charitable need here was satisfied, would donors feel free to give to the benefit of foreigners
If so, you may have misunderstood 'charity' and the proverb, which was originally " Charity should begin at himself" [John Wycliff "To Prelates", in the C14] You should not allow yourself to suffer whilst relieving the same suffering in others.

Beckham is one of the few footballers who is a real positive role model for youngsters (and maybe some not so young). There will always be critics and it often boils down to jealousy and envy. Mrs Becks will fit in just nice and dandy with the BCBG's in St. Germain -she won't even look that thin either bless her
"Baz shows the worst type of politics of envy it is possible to show.
"
Stop being so self righteous
Of course I "envy" his money, who wouldnt ? , but you have to face facts hes an overrated show pony (I'm not saying hes not good, but he aint that good) and the meedjia circus that follows him and his wife around is ridiculous.
Ronaldo and Messi are on a different footballing level but dont have the same circus following them around.
And I have never said I dont like him, i dont even know him, Im sure hes a really nice down to earth family guy, its all the baggage and that hes not as good a footballer as people seem to think.
I do find it an amazing coincidence that an overrated footballer marries an overrated "singer"....makes you wonder...

Being a bit of a cycnic, one could guess the 'salary' is the the bit which goes to the charity and the rights to his name/ family etc remain his. So, he gets a tax break giving salary away and can use that to offset any tax on his 'Beckham Enterprises' which is the really payday of his agreemant? N'est pas??
