The Desert Rats, are losing their Tanks, now the Parachute Regiment are losing their parachutes, what next are the Rifle Brigades about to lose their rifles, so that they can be given to the rebels in Syria?

They have not had to be used since the Suez Crisis and yet they had been paid an extra £180 a month for being trained to parachute. Is that not strange?

During my army days a long time ago the extra money was only paid during actual training . You lost it when you returned to your unit.
So in effect that extra would only be paid for 3 months.

The whole idea behind it was that every branch of the army would have a
small number of paras who could be called upon to carry out a specific mission. If they were called upon they were then paid the higher rate for its duration.

They could save a lot of money by using an old method. A tethered helium balloon rose to about 1000' over Wanstead Flats in East London and parachutists got their experience from this.

Sarcasm aside, shouldn't they now be re-named "The Regiment", rather than "The Parachute Regiment?"
