As expected. Cos he's a Cabinet minister, Huhne gets light sentence of 8 months. Probably serve 4 months.

Also possible 10% reduction from sentence 'cos he pleaded guilty. Huh - he repeatedly denied it and didn't plead guilty till the end. Pity he wasn't given 4 years.

Damned disgraceful verdict.

i have a feeling that shaney is right.
I think shaney is talking rubbish...........
Mojo, his offence was perverting the course of justice.

I feel sorry for both of them, a white lie that got out of hand. They're paying the price for their high profile, a fine would have been sufficient.
Sorry to disagree,jj, but a fine is not allowable under that charge, as......

Since they were both charged with perverting the course of justice, then a fine would have been sufficient, would not have been in line with the Sentencing Manual as instructed by the CPS, as noted in...

http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_manual/perverting_the_course_of_justice/

Offence: Perverting the Course of Justice
Legislation: Common law
Mode of Trial: Indictable only
Statutory Limitations & Maximum Penalty: At large
Sentencing Range: 4 months to 36 months
Yep.
I thought they would get 6 months each, so the sentences are slightly higher than I expected. But about right really.
Jail was always on the cards. Otherwise, the pitchforks and flaming torches would have been out.
Probably an open prison for him. Are there similar prisons for women?
Lots have done it. Prosecution of both has released perpetrators from blackmail.

all this over three speeding points . . . and the stupid man was caught later using his mobile phone while driving.

Did he think he was beyong the law.

Typical Cleggy mate.
I'm surprised he didn't opt for the driver awareness scheme which allows you to dodge your points. It only costs about £90 and the session lasts 1/2 day. You can only do it once every 3 years and would have saved him a lot of bother. The classes are full every session with drivers trying to protect their licences,

he is no mate of Cleggs, going on the fact that he wanted the job of leader of the Lib dems.
he appeared on the news last evening and was about as obsequious as it was possible to be, oh i hurt my family, i am so sorry, should have taken the points, if so why didn't he at the time.

It wasn't just a speeding fine, it was perverting the course of justice.

(He actually avoided a driving ban by doing so aswell. Comically though he was banned a few months later for using a mobile while driving)
the vehicle was being driven at nearly twice the limit, the driver lied, his wife lied, they tried to get the poor little rich boy off. They perverted the course of justice, different ball game altogether, they should have both got 12 months imo.
This time next year it'll be an amusing conversation round the dinner table for them and their friends.
Not exactly old lags are they? No single room flat and Jobseekers Allowance on the horizon.
Save your pity for the whales or some such.
that may be the case, whales deserve our help, this man didn't do something just stupid, he lied and continued to lie until the last moment, then to cap it all he goes on Channel 4 bleating on and on about how he hurt his family, shouldn't have taken the points, oh woe, pass the sick bag please. He should do the time in Wandsworth, the whole eight months, he won't of course, as the judge said he will do four, and others suggest he will go to an open prison... if so his time there will be cushier...
Eight months inside would be a total waste of vital government funds.

He has already had his real punishment - a career and reputation in shreds.
