What is making some of today's teenagers so vicious?

Been wondering that myself for 40 years, aog. It seems to a part of being a teenager for some individuals, that they take violent offence at nothing.

No idea. Appalling and unprovoked attack.The report goes on to mention another offence by the boy, so just sounds like a violent thug, basically. Why that should be, who knows for sure? There could be any number of reasons, or none readily evident at all.

As a cultural development, I think it more interesting that a girl was actively involved in the beating, than the attack was committed by teenagers. I know that girls can be violent, I have read and seen reports of girl gangs and all that, but still......

I do agree it is a disgusting attack but some teenagers have always been vicious.

Absolutely disgusting for you to bring up a case such as this in defence of a much more savage and cowardly attack, but then it gives you the opportunity to attack members and ex-members of the British Armed Forces.

The Mail or any other publication for that matter cannot report on every drunken member of the public attacking the police, unless of course it has a certain agenda to meet, such as you do.

This particular person was also unfortunate enough to suffer from a mental illness, and like any other such case this would have been taken into consideration when he was sentenced, and rightly so.

Just to sum up, how many incidences of thugs attacking policemen occurred during the Tottenham riots, and these were sober and I presume not mentally ill.

This is a discgraceful story - but there is no need to bring in ex-Army to this story. It's bad enough on its own.

I heard an interesting fact the other day - a quarter of all soldiers will go on to commit a violent crime during their lifetime - thats a lot of violent crime.

Helen, since so many squaddies used to be discharged with no pastoral care, no housing, no support, nothing (and not much in the way of post-traumatic counselling), it's hardly surprising that many of those living on the streets turned out to be single ex-soldiers - could have been my OH if it weren't for a different set of circumstances at home. Thankfully things are improving (Help for Heroes is making great changes, showing up what the Govt didn't do) but it's still not much fun suddenly finding yourself in civilian life if you haven't got a job to come out to.

Box I understand that my grandfather, father, uncles and brothers were all in the forces.

I have seen it work and not work depending on if the person leaving is willing to take the help offered to them.

Why blame just soldiers?

Lack of discipline at home
Lack of respect for elders
Lack of discipline in schools
'Parents' who don't give a toss what their kids get into
etc etc

Careful now...you don't want to start pulling at that particular thread otherwise this will descend into a statistics tennis match, where we compare the number of black and Asians in jail with the number of ex-military.

And we know that just end ends up with us all disappearing down a rabbit hole.

My guess is that they can see no reason to respect others, and it could be (although I have no way of proving this) becuase they came from parents who didn't respect others.
