Not me!  I hate sport and I imagine it'll just be more people crushing me on the tube!

Lord Coe
But once they all go away you'll be left with a better tube! Besides, if we don't get it the French will, and nobody wants that surely.
I'd far rather GB gets the Olympics than France. For a start it costs too bl00dy much...
Ken Livingstone - he'll be pi**ed with his newts
My brother lives in Montreal and says that it took about 20yrs to pay off the Olympics when it was there. Anyway it's all too hot to have Olympics in Summer.
I do. I think Manchester did a splendid job with the Commonwealth Games and the British people enjoy the games more than most other countries.
Ido,I will be able to fly my flag out of my car window again,I love it when it flutters(:)
How do you work that out, landie? But the more people for it in GB the better I think!
It concerns me !    I live in Stratford, East London

I'm not particulalry bothered about the sport, but that part of east London desperately needs investment, so I hope the bid is sucessful.

Andy 008...........you really must be joking.
Admittedly London and the SE of England have a good percentage of the population but you're hardly in the underpriviledged category, and there are many other places in need of regeneration.
Personally I hope it goes to Paris......within easy commuting distance from anywhere in GB without having to spend billions on non-essentials.  Put the money to better use please.
I'm not too concerned about it but on balance I think it'll cost money. No matter how much money the games themselves bring in from sponsorship or tourists or whatever, I think it'll cost more than that to build the stadia etc. so it's money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Andy008, I agree.

The best thing about the Olympics is the infrastructure left behind.  This gives London an added bonus of uses the facilities and extra public transport afterwards.

I live in Munich and the infrastructure left from the Olympics here are tremendous!

Today on the way home there was no met line because of a signal failure and emergency engineering works caused by rain. The chiltern line replacement train broke down at Harrow (the door got stuck). How we can hope to have public transport in place for 2012 is beyond me - and yet the private tube companies can pay out bonuses of 9 million to their head honchos with delays every day for the poor passengers who spend a fortune. Never mind extra commuters travelling between events in such geographically dispersed areas as Stratford and Wimbledon.

And guess what? the olympic visitors got special trains run for them when they visited - not for them the reality of a London rush hour.

Of course it will cost more, stevie. That's why I say rather GB than us!
As I have said in another thread, the last Olympics not to make all the money back that was spent was Seoul in 1988. Every Olympics since Barcelona has MADE money on top of all the expenses laid ot including new Stadia etc. Not to mention the improved transport network, improved lower budget accommodation etc etc

Personally, I love the Olympics. i find if exciting, moving, entertaining. I wish Birmingham had the facilities to have it.  I save up any leave I have to take time off when it's on so that I can watch the live events whatever time of day or night they are on.  We even spent the 2 weeks of our honeymoon during the 1988 Seoul games watching every night (how romantic!). That was the year that Ben Johnson was disqualified and GB Men's hockey won gold. I don't mind paying extra taxes and having to accomodate extra visitors and building if it means we can have better sports facilities.
I come from Greece but living in and out of UK. The infrastructure
that was created is underused , almost useless. Unless there is not huge interest in sports by British or there is the likelihood of not being able to organize future, sport super events, you shouldn't be bothered to host the Olympics. The operation costs of the infrastructure are enormous without adding $$$$$ for anti-terrorist measures!!

Well, we shall know in just under an hour folks.

First Moscow was eliminated, New York followed and now Madrid has been eliminated which means will it be Paris or will it be London.

I expect Weed knows, "Weeeeed?" Excuse me, but I loved Bill and Ben when I was little.
