True OG, the news could be depressing. Poor girl, another innocent life gone.
In the Mail, (so possibly take it with a pinch of salt??) It states Jade was eating a meat pie at the time, which could explain how this horrible tragedy happened.
Correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't some law passed about a couple of years ago after a "spate" of dog attacks whereby one needed a special license for keeping certain breeds..e.g Staffordshire Bull Terriers?
Yes they just said on bbc that they are investigating whether she was eating at the time.
yes sqad, the Dangerous Dogs Act, but it doesn't cover kids in their own homes or people who have to visit private properties in the course of their jobs
humber...thanks...that's odd isn't it, I would have thought that those people that you have mentioned are the one's at greater risk.

I wonder if the owners did have a license?
The meat pie thing was mentioned on the morning TV too B00.
Sounds an unlikely trigger to me, surely letting them have the pie would have stopped the incident. Sounds more of a stranger in their territory thing to me.
^^they certainly are sqad, I've read this morning that eight children and six adults have been killed in dog attacks since 2005 -five of the kids were under four years old

absolutely take ratter's earlier point about environment and training, so
why anybody in their right mind -licenced or not - wants to keep five bull mastiffs and staffies in what looks to be a terraced house in the middle of a city is completely beyond me
I agree OG, I cannot understand the need for 5 large dogs in a small house, I feel sorry for this poor girl

Sqad, you are wrong Im afraid, Staffordshire Bull terriers are not on the banned dog list and neither are the Mastiffs.

See here https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs
A meat pie could certainly trigger something. All it takes is one dog to go for it and the others could 'pack' leading to this dreadful result.

Not sure what the answer is, but we do need to avoid knee jerk reactions that will penalize the normal law biding and do nothing to address the real problem.

I too wondered why so many dogs in a small area, mastiffs are large dogs and need space.
RATTER...I didn't say "banned" I used the term "special license" but thanks for the information.
Bull Mastiffs are quite docile in my experience.

I don't like Staffs. My dad used to have one (not by choice, inherited) she was a lovely dog but I didn't trust her. I made him put her out if I bought the kids round.

Sorry squad, I dont think any domestic dogs require a special license in the UK.
Sounds more of a stranger in their territory thing to me.

No O.G apparently she was no stranger to the dogs.

Small terrace house and 5 large dogs, it should not be allowed.
RATTER...OK...I was just a bit confused .....
I agree, they need space and plenty of it.

ummmm, Staffies are known as Nanny dogs because of their nature, we have had staffies in this country since the year dot! the problem is the people who are rearing the dogs, they love the tough image and encourage the wrong type of behaviours from the dogs. I was only in the pet shop yesterday and noticed a dogs lead labelled "Bull Terrier lead" it was a heavy duty lead covered in brass studs and made from thick heavy duty leather with big heavy fittings, all made to give the appearance of "MACHO" my dogs weigh about 11 stone each, they are on perfectly normal leads!
^ yep ratter, dogs kept as accessories by people who aren't fit to own them and this girl pays the price
That made me smile thinking of my dad with a macho dog :-)
