While Clare Balding is dishing out labels to male football fans by calling them both homophobic and racist, and then also claiming that women players are more skillful than men, perhaps she should at the same time attach the label sexist to herself?
Incidentally why did the BBC deem it necessary to employ her to host the Boat Race, as if we don't we see far too much of her on our screens now?

Do you want it drawing out for you?
*** just the same as some think we see too much of Bruce Forsyth, Ant & Dec, Phillip Schofield, Eamonn Holmes etc, etc. ***
I and those others obviously see far too much of these personalities on our screens, so much so that they are becoming to get rather boring.

News doesn't always have to be bad news, or depressing news, or news that anyway you can use to go on some angry rant. Which, to be fair, covers nearly every post I've seen you make AOG.
As to the original point, though - I think Women's football is only "better" than men's at the moment because it's less popular. As soon as women's competitions get a higher profile they're likely to reach the same sort of level as men's - in every way, including the diving, bad language, racist abuse and so on.

Her claim came as quite a shock to me. Then when I was down the pub on Saturday my mate told me that, apparently, the new Pope is a follower of the Roman Catholic faith and also (would you believe it) that bears can sometimes be found using the woods as a toilet! I was absolutely astonished, I can tell you! :)

Because she's expert at what she does, broadcasting. Do you know of a better, aog?
How is she being sexist? Is it sexist to be right? Homophobic? How many homosexual male footballers are there whose sexuality is known? And why don't they come out? [Pause for aog to say that they don't need to shout it from the rooftops ?] Racism? If you don't think that racism is still found at all levels of men's soccer, you may wonder why there's a Respect campaign to kick racism out of football and you certainly don't read newspapers. Skill? Well, she wasn't saying that women players all had more skill, rather than that they don't indulge in the practices that we see so often and which spoil the men's professional game.

It seems like a fairly sweeping statement from Ms Balding, however - she may be in a better position to comment than me, as I have never watched a full game of soccer, let alone been to a ground.
Is she right?
Can anyone verify?
A mate of mine has told me that by and large, it's not possible to go to a Millwall match without hearing both racist/homophobic chants, but he went on to say that this didn't actually mean the shouters were racist or homophobic.
It would take too long to explain here, but what he said actually made sense...especially after I met up with his footie mates at a bar one night and snogged him.
Go figure...

Don't know about the last six months, but I have still seen enough of her.
Olympic Games, Grand National, Boat Race, Rugby League coverage, Lord Mayor's Show, Trooping of the Colour, Crufts, New Years Eve, Wimbledon, Countryfile, Channel Four Racing, BBC's Sports Personality of the Year, Britain's Brightest, Cheltenham Festival.
To name just a few.

Thing is...
She's popular.
People like her, and seem to respond well to her down-to-earth manner, easy presenting style and from what I hear from friends who watch her broadcasts, she researches the subjects she's speaking on.
What more could you ask for?
Do you have an issue with her for any reason?
Who would you like to see presenting in her place?

Can you imagine the outcry from the feminists if a male sports personality were to make such similar sweeping statements such as this against females.
/// The popular television personality slammed men's football for being aggressive and full of players affecting injuries during matches. ///
/// Ms Balding, who hosted the London 2012 games, said that women's football involved a lot more skill, which did not revolve around players punting the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. ///
/// 'If you go to a WSL match this season, prepare yourself for disappointment. You won’t see any diving or swearing at the ref,' she said. ///
/// 'There won’t be any racist chanting from the fans or homophobic abuse. There won’t be any hopeful hoofing of the ball halfway up the pitch and there won’t be any feigning of injury. ///
/// 'However, if you enjoy a quick, sharp style of football, the kind that relies on skill rather than power, you will love it.' ///
I wonder what her views are on female drivers.
