The problem is there is little evidence (unless twisted) to show speed camera's work. If anything they can cause a problem with drivers braking sharply.

Not far from where I am sitting now a motorcyclist was killed trying to brake on a speed camera.

It is inappropriate speed that kills anyway, not just speed.

Speed camera's were just a money making exercise. If they really worked why close all of them, keep a few going and no one will know which.

Far better to put a plod in a jam sandwich.

well if the money making worked there should be one every 10ft! so I guess the money went somewhere else! Anyway they have now been largely discredited, often making roads more dangerous. It's good that common sense is now prevailing.

What a good idea ! Remove all the speed cameras and let people drive as fast as they want, whenever and wherever they like. The Jeremy Clarkson approach to road safety !

Leaving them there but switching them off is still a deterrent because not everyone knows they're switched off! I'm fairly sure ours are switched off locally but I'm never 100% sure. The sign, cameras and road markings remain and i cannot be sure whether are off or whether they found money to reinstate and maintain some of them.

Of course i always stick to the speed limit anyway, so i have nothing to worry about really!^
