I find her publicly announcing her double mastectomy quite admirable. Over the past 24 hours, I know I've certainly found out more about the BRCA1 gene had she kept the treatment private.
Do you think (like some commentators have said) that she's receiving an undue amount of praise?
(I don't, by the way - I've always liked her, and now like her MUCH more).
My friend had a preventative mastectomy and her 29 year old daughter is planning to do the same in a couple of years. They both carry the gene. The gran and great gran died of breast cancer and two maternal aunts have had mastectomies and cancer treatments. One has survived so to have someone high profile come out and tell their story has confirmed their decisions.
