Where Is Your 'war On Terror' Now President Bush?
162 Answers
After this country slavishly followed the war-monger Bush in his laughably termed 'war on terror' (How can you fight a war against a concept?) and after all the loss of lives as soldiers 'protect' us - it has come to this.
It's as easy as two maniacs with weapons to kill people on British streets.
All that military power, time, money, casualties and deaths on both sides to 'protect' us, and how protected are we really?
Surely the time has come to accept that we can never 'win' this war, but we must try and find a solution to the hatred that drives Moslem extremists to hate the West so much.
If the numpties in the EDL start their 'revenge', then let's not imagine that Afghanistan will start happening right here, right now.
Enough is enough - time to try and sort this out with dialogue, because guns and bombs are not working for anyone.

Spain joined the Iraq crusade. Which is why they were bombed a year later.
// José María Aznar, then the leader of Spain and head of the Popular Party, which once again controls the national government, supported the U.S.-led invasion. With its temporary seat on the U.N. Security Council, Spain sought to find legal grounding for the intervention. Once the invasion had begun, Madrid sent up to 1,300 soldiers to Iraq. //

Point taken - I wasn't aware of Madrid's involvement in Iraq. However, that does not detract from the fact that France and Germany have also been targeted. (And yes, I am aware they have made contributions to the Afghanistan campaign, as have most countries in Europe).
These people have declared war on the very principal of democracy and freedom, and did so decades ago, long before 9/11 and long before Iraq and Afghanistan. They are not innocent, oppressed subjects rising up against colonial rule. Whereever they're given the chance, Al Qaeda, the Taliban and the Haqqani Network have proven to be the oppressors.

/// We live in an historical and supported democracy, but we stil have knuckle-draggers from the EDL yawping about 'defending our country' - idiots will always exist in any culture. ///
Name calling seems the weapon of the Left, in which to somehow belittle those who have different vies from themselves.
Yes although I would not care to mix with some members of the EDL I do not deny them the right to protest on what they think is right, at least these 'knuckle draggers' as you and others call them, can feel proud that they are far more advanced up the time scale of Homo sapiens than the sub-species who beheaded that soldier.

AOG explain to me how attacking the police, closing a town centre and terrorising the innocent members of a community. Is in anyway risng above the murdering b$£"*&^%?
Not only are they no further up the scale than the two murderers, they are cowards, because they have to go mob handed.
Remember one of terrorisms greatest weapons is hysteria and the EDL reacted like hysterical old women.

//You've made the grave mistake of assuming rationality on both sides - you can't have a discussion with someone who doesn't want a discussion with you.//
I haven’t had time to read all the posts yet, but I will. In the meantime I just want to say I agree absolutely with the Editor. Expecting rationality from the irrational is naive.

Tora - "Ok Andy, let's start again shall we, you are the President, the towers have just collapsed, over to you........ "
This is an act of war, but what I must not do, is panic. I can't adopt the 'circle the waggons' mentality that my father had, because that proved futile and cost thousands of lives.
I mustn't go on TV and talk about a 'War On Terror' because that is a meaningless soundbite and it makes me sound like a gung-ho fool.
I mustn't commit the lives of thousands of soldiers, and millions of dollars starting a war with no exit strategy which we cannot win.
I must not, I repeat, panic ....
Aw, shucks. why the hell not, you only get to make history once - get me my Cheif Of Staff on the phone, these injuns need to be taught a lesson ...

So you would have allowed Kuwait to be annexed? I realise it's fashionable to be anti-American, but I really think you're letting it cloud your judgement. The rather inept results of the first Gulf War does not undermine the valid reasons for launching it.
