Whatever floats your boat Bedknobs !
I say good news too, despite my doubts about the function of the House of Lords.
Good news. That's a big majority in favour too. So much for the Lords wrecking the bill.
How many really care?
I don't really care, but then again I'm not gay.

i think you are right, not a lot of people do care
That sounds like pretty good news to me!! :-)
Excellent.

Will start planning my wedding early next year.

Well done Britain.
really, sp1814?

Go for it.
can I deffo buy a hat then sp? x
sp1814 - Best Wishes for your day in 2014.
sp, do you mean you won't begin planning until early next year?

according to the press, even if the measure is enacted into law at it's soonest, the first marriages won't be until next summer.

SinceFrance's first wedding happened only days after the enactment, I can't fathon the delay at all.
What worries many folk is the shambolic state of heterosexual marriage in this country. Expensive and sometimes over the top hen nights, stag nights
and wedding days seem to be de rigeur, yet the concept of sticking together in a marriage no longer seems fashionable even when there are children to consider. Men can do what they like about homosexual weddings as far as I am concerned.
I think it's great news.
they're for women too, seadogg
Some facts rather than 'in my day' statements
• The divorce rate fell in 2011 to 10.8 divorcing people per thousand married population from 11.1 in 2010
• 34% of marriages are expected to end in divorce by the 20th wedding anniversary
• The number of divorces in 2011 was highest among men and women aged 40 to 44
• The average marriage is expected to last for 32 years

Divorce rate 42 per cent in 2012 . [Source: Office of National Statistics] There has been a steady decline in divorces over the years and the rate is almost back to 1970s levels.

It will still be a high level compared to the level in the good old days when couples felt obliged to stay together in name, divorce being harder to get and still carrying a stigma. When 'no fault' (irretrievable breakdown) divorces came in, practitioners were swamped with cases of wives who had been married for many years and who then took the opportunity to be free.

Not sure how expensive weddings, stag nights, or hen nights could be an indicator of future failure of marriages. Do couples who marry on the cheap have longer marriages, until death do part?
Yes - we've held off until the outcome of these votes.

I'm not 100% sure whether this vote settles is - does anyone know? Is this it, or will there be more challenges?

Anyway, definitely not going for a 2014 marriage - planning next year and implementation in 2015.

Like everyone else, I want the opportunity to get married, put on weight and spend a startling amount of time complaining about being tied down...
humbersloop

I believe fascinators are the 'in thing' now...

(Only found out what a fascinator was last year...seriously...)
Lol, good luck with that, sp.

Fred - the divorce rates were lower 'back in the day' because women had nowhere to go and often no income.
