I'd be pretty astounded if a teacher didn't understand the significance of going on the register, though. Do they not chat about this sort of thing at Catholic schools?
Also quite like to know why he didn't delete the pictures. But perhaps he did and some techie at PC World has found them lurking in a corner of the hard drive, un-overwritten.
I am disinclined to take Michael Gove's word for anything, unfortunately.

jno - from experiences of the present Mrs Hughes as teacher, deputy head teacher and head teacher in the Catholic sector, I can assure you that abuse is very much a conversation topic in the Catholic education sector, which given the wider issues of behaviour by priests, is hardly surprising!
I heard on the news today that Mr Gove is aiming to strengthen legislation to prevent this circumstance re-ocurring.
I would like to think that Mr Gove made this decision on hearing of the case, and it has taken until now for him to be able to speak of his instant intention to prevent this nasty man from ever teaching again.
The alternative is that Mr Gove found himself considerably surprised by the outcry at his Department's casual approach to the safety of children, and decided rapidly to act to defuse the situation.
I would love to assure myself that the first scenario is indeed the case, but given successive governments' wilful intention to systematically destroy our education system, I cannot be so assured.
