Just watched an interview of Tommy Robinson (EDL) by Andrew Neil in the Sunday Politics on TV and he held hos own , in my opinion, against a thorough and well researched interviewer.
He presented many aspects of life in Britain which are threatened by Islam to which i had a certain amount of sympathy.
jno - //Public opinion polls often produce findings based on less than factual information. //
And just how can you tell that this is one of those times?
There have been surveys where folk have said that with regard to crime or safety, they feel fine in their own neighbourhood but it's bad elsewhere. Now if a majority of folk have that perception then the perception cannot be true. The fact that folk believe something to be true does not make it true.
Sqad my point was that any debate or argument about 'Islamisation' whether real or perceived, is something that needs to be conducted without reference to people like the EDL. If you believe in the rule if law and rational debate then Tommy Robinson and his merry band are not good company. They're just one lot of nutters feeding off another lot of nutters.
jno, As far as different areas go surely it depends on what people are used to or willing to put up with for a quiet life.
In some arenas if one dares not to toe the party line to the letter one can be accused of plotting a crusade.
He was extremely evasive on the issue of a speech he made in 2011 where promised that "the Islamic community will feel the full force of the English Defence League" - and how this squares with his organisation's claim to be nonviolent.
And the contention that the nazi salute images have been photoshopped is utterly ludicrous. For one thing, even if they were, it is only a matter of reproducing the original photographs (which would not be hard to do). Besides, all of these would have to be photoshopped exceptionally well:
\\\So how has the 'increasing Islamification of Britain' been being felt in the Balaerics then? \\\
Almost the same as I assume it is felt in the UK........there being concern at the number of Muslims entering the island from North Africa and forming enclaves of "different people.".No SDL though at present ;-)
\\\But I don't see you as the next Oswald Mosley Sqad although he did leave the country to lecture the UK from the safety of overseas\\
Sqad, any chance of linking to one of those polls that say the majority think Islam is a threat.
The latest reputable poll I can find, by YouGov, conducted after the Woolwich atrocity, do not bear that out, with 80% believing that immigrants are peaceful.
// Eighty percent say that most Muslims are “peaceful and law abiding citizens”, and while three quarters of these believe “there is a dangerous minority who feel no sense of loyalty”, the remaining quarter say practically all of them “deplore Wednesday’s killing as much as everyone”. //
That is what we are saying and the EDL aren't. Acts of terrorism by muslim followers do undoubtedly occur, but they are done by "a dangerous minority" not a threat from the whole Islamic community.
Gromit...I think that we are getting a little confused here, my statistic was about Islamisation of the UK and not violence.
My link was posted on the NEWS section Schoolchildren under achieving
PressTV is Iranian. It was apparently quoting Baroness Warsi but I can find no trace of any poll that says 75% of Britons think Islam is a threat. I have Googled and Binged for it but can find no such result.
There are at least 10-12 links (I got fed up) which show that certainly more than half the population in France, Germany and the UK, fear the effect of Islam on their way of life.
