Mrs May proposes to charge any intending immigrants from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh, Nigeria, or Ghana £3,00 each before any application to enter will be considered. The scheme will be extended in due course to other high risk countries. (No, that does not include Romania) [The Sunday Times]

This is part of her plan to reduce immigration. Bring me your poor, your huddled masses? Er,no! The scheme is similar to that used in Australia. A good idea? Will it work? Will it stop Tory voters going to UKIP?

we should stop all immigration for the time being, not for good for a time when they can have a better count and understand of the needs of those who live here. No one actually knows the figures simply because many do not get counted if they have come from the EU, and many don't get counted because they are illegals, and have slipped through the radar. Some are being picked up on now, but if someone said we had 60 million people in UK, i would say you can't possibly know. So services that we all need are stretched to their capacity, finding somewhere to live problematic, i read that rents in the capital rose 7 times the rate of inflation, no idea what that means, except it was quoted by a BBC reporter a few weeks ago.
London's always been more expensive than other places, nothing new in that. Brits (like Dick Whittington) want to live there too. Bigger city, so more jobs. More people, higher rents, supply and demand.
I'm certenly glad glad I'm on the way out! I would hate to be here in another 20years time, Great Fecking Britain, my@rse, Free handout state, more like.
As India charges UK citizens about three times as much as everyone else for a tourist visa, this delights me!
Those who cannot afford the bond should not feel obligated to indebt themselves to anyone. There is no compulsion to apply for entry.

Much like those who want a house, then... nobody should ever take out a mortgage.
Nothing like that at all jno, but good for you for trying.
I don't think anyone's suggested that no one ever take a mortgage - but mortgages are usually offered only to those who can afford the repayments themselves.
but theres people who want to encourage immigration, unlimited with no restraints...specifically non white immigration, as has been seen over the past 50 or so years.
theyre not so keen on white immigrants though, oh no, thats not in their plans, perish the thought we fill up with white immigrants from wherever
they have a thing about this country being white, for some reason it seems to upset them.
a lot like that, douglas. Few can afford a house out of the money they have, but people calculate how much they will be able to make in the future, how much the cost of borrowing is, and go ahead, or not. The lender guesses at whether the will be able to afford the repayments in the future. If they could afford it now, they wouldn't be taking out the mortgage.
Who are they and what's their motive? ^

Really, baz? Got any evidence for that rather unusual claim?
yeah...look around in most cities in the uk
look around London
take your blinkers off
"look around" isn't evidence. I want to hear your evidence that people prefer non-white immigration.
stop being such a silly boy ...you know i'm right but you just love arguing for arguings sake
on the contrary, I know you're wrong and you can't produce a shred of evidence. You haven't even suggested how "looking around you" allows you to tell a white immigrant from a local white person, but maybe you have a sixth sense? (That's not meant to imply you have the other five, of course.).
having read the story on several news media sites, it appears that this is not really to do with immigration, but encouraging short-term visitors not to overstay their visa limitation; presumably the bond will be returned when they leave.

so I'm not really sure why the allusion to mortgages. can someone explain?
take your blinkers off, you know it makes sense
I've never understood why people like you hate facing up to the truth.
Bazwillrun, do you have a link to the plans to encourage non-white immigration?
As if there will be written plans......

oh dear
